Wang Xingxing is the founder of Unitree Robotics. He founded Unitree in Hangzhou in 2016, focusing on quadruped and humanoid robot R&D. Unitree has high self-developed core hardware ratio, bringing civilian quadruped robot prices to accessible levels. In 2021 and 2025, Unitree robots performed at the CCTV Spring Festival Gala twice. In August 2026, Unitree Robotics went public on the Shanghai STAR Market.

I. Student Years Technical Exploration
Born in Yuyao, Zhejiang in 1990. According to public reports, Wang had a strong interest in mechanical structures as a student, but English was consistently his weakness — his college entrance exam English score was not ideal, which also affected his graduate school application.
In 2009, Wang enrolled at Zhejiang Sci-Tech University in mechatronics. During his freshman year, he spent about 200 yuan on components and assembled a simple bipedal robot in his dormitory.
II. Graduate Studies and XDog
After undergraduate studies, Wang pursued a master's in mechanical engineering at Shanghai University. At that time, Boston Dynamics led the legged robot field with hydraulic drive technology. Wang chose the electric drive route — he believed hydraulic systems were expensive and complex to maintain, while electric drives were more suitable for civilian applications.
He systematically tackled core components including motors, reducers, and controllers. Committed to completing what he started, he extended his graduation to finish XDog. In 2015, XDog won an award at a Shanghai robotics competition. In 2016, XDog test videos spread on overseas platforms, attracting industry attention.
III. Early Entrepreneurship
In 2016, Wang founded Unitree Robotics in Hangzhou with angel investment. At the time, robotics capital focused on AI algorithms and service robots; quadruped robots received less attention.
According to public reports, in 2018 the company faced funding constraints, and Wang reduced personal expenses to maintain operations. In 2019, Sequoia China and other institutions began paying attention to Unitree.
IV. Product Development and Spring Festival Gala Appearances
Unitree maintains a high self-developed ratio in core hardware. The company brought civilian quadruped robot prices to accessible levels.
In 2021 CCTV Spring Festival Gala, Unitree robot dogs performed as "Benben". In 2023, humanoid robot H1 was launched; in 2024, G1 was released. In 2025 Spring Festival Gala, Unitree humanoid robots performed again.
According to company public data, 2025 humanoid robot shipments and revenue grew. In the global quadruped robot market, Unitree is one of the major players.
V. IPO
In August 2026, Unitree Robotics listed on the STAR Market. According to the prospectus and public information, Wang Xingxing holds a certain percentage of company shares.
From assembling robots in a dormitory as a student to founding and listing a robotics company, Wang's journey reflects a tech entrepreneur's exploration path in hard technology.
