Editorial Intro

Pupu was born in Fuzhou in 2016. In those days, the dark-store model was not yet widely understood. Most players were trading subsidies for scale and speed for growth; Pupu chose to enter the market the way an advertising man would.

Its founder, Chen Xingwen, had spent more than twenty years in advertising and marketing, serving numerous consumer brands. He knew all too well how to put a new brand into the daily field of vision of household users in the shortest possible time. Pupu's takeoff in Fuzhou was a meticulously planned saturation campaign—community elevators, bus stops and outdoor billboards covered almost every daily route of family users. The placement was hard, but the memory hook was soft: before Fuzhou residents had even used the Pupu app, they had already learned in the elevator that "grocery shopping with a kid is hard—just wait for Pupu at home."

The household penetration rate in the city was later reported to exceed 70%, making Fuzhou Pupu's densest stronghold of all its markets.

This stands in sharp contrast to Chen Xingwen's own style. A man who deeply understands the art of communication chose to run his company almost invisibly; a marketer skilled at creating buzz directed every communication resource into product and fulfillment rather than his personal IP.

Pupu soon entered Xiamen, followed by Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Chengdu and Quanzhou. In every new city, it invested heavily in media resources to complete awareness coverage in a short time, then used its "30-minute delivery" fulfillment capability to convert trial into repurchase.

Chen Xingwen once expressed a view in an internal discussion: the real value of advertising lies not in creating noise, but in making users think of you first when the need arises. Over ten years, Pupu verified this again and again across Fuzhou, Xiamen, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Chengdu and Quanzhou.

In 2024, Pupu achieved full-year profitability for the first time, with annual revenue of about 30 billion yuan. This is not a story accomplished through capital subsidies, but the long-horizon payoff of advertising and marketing combined with supply-chain management, regional depth and fulfillment efficiency.

Nanping origin and twenty years of advertising: Chen Xingwen and "Chen Muwang"

**English:** In Pupu Supermarket’s public narrative, founder Chen Xingwen is an almost “invisible” person. Many media outlets have mentioned in their reports that he rarely gives interviews and rarely makes public appearances. It is difficult to find clear public photos on the Internet, and he rarely appears at industry forums and award ceremonies. Even after Pu Pu became Fuzhou’s retail business card and his annual revenue surged to 30 billion yuan, the outside world’s description of his personal experience still mostly comes from the splicing of former employees, suppliers and industrial and commercial materials. [s1] [s5] [s24] Financial World Weekly’s report in 2026 used the title “Pu Pu Supermarket, Being Hunted” to sort out the company’s whereabouts. The details about the founder mainly come from the memories of company insiders and partners. [s1]

Business information provides an important alias: Chen Xingwen, also known as Chen Muwang. Qixinbao's affiliated companies and employment information show that Chen Muwang is a core figure in Pupu-related enterprises. He served as the legal representative, director, and general manager of Pupu Technology (Fujian) Co., Ltd., and served as executive director of Fuzhou Cangqiong Ecological Agriculture Development Co., Ltd.; his name is also associated with executive partner information of Pingtan Puren, Pingtan Puyou and other investment partnerships. Information about Fuzhou Pupu E-Commerce Co., Ltd. on [s15] Tianyancha and other platforms also shows that the company was established on June 12, 2016, and was registered in Taijiang District, Fuzhou. The legal representative was later changed to Fan Yunhai. [s2] The names "Chen Xingwen" and "Chen Muwang" appear alternately in media reports, industrial and commercial materials, and early company materials, forming identity information that must be marked in file records. [s1] [s15]

Public reports are relatively consistent in describing his place of origin: he is from Nanping, Fujian, and has lived and started his business in Fuzhou for a long time. [s5] [s25] Nanping is located in northern Fujian, while Fuzhou is the capital of Fujian Province and an important commercial city on the southeast coast. From northern Fujian to Fuzhou, Chen Xingwen's business career did not start in retail, but in advertising, marketing and media consulting. Many media mentioned that before starting his own business, Chen Xingwen had more than 20 years of experience in the advertising and marketing industry. He had served Fujian consumer brands such as Yinlu and Panpan, and was familiar with brand positioning, channel communication, consumer psychology and offline promotion. [s1] [s4] [s5] This experience left obvious traces in Pu Pu’s later development: Pu Pu was very good at hitting home users with straightforward and life-oriented advertising slogans in the early days, and also knew how to convert marketing expenses into service details that users can perceive. [s4] [s23]

Public reports have not disclosed Chen Xingwen’s birth year; the time anchor that can be confirmed is that he was 41 years old when Pupu was founded in 2016. [s1] [s5] According to the traditional Chinese business context, 41 years old has already passed nearly ten years, and it is not the most common age for Internet entrepreneurs to make their debut. However, more than 20 years of experience in the retail and advertising industries means that he has mature judgment on supply chains, channels, brands and local consumption habits. [s4] [s5] Chinese entrepreneurs and other media described him in reports as a "slow-to-start" Fujian businessman: he does not chase the limelight, does not join the circle, and is not eager to tell stories to the capital market. Instead, he first runs a model that focuses on assets, operations, and contract performance in Fuzhou. [s5] [s23]

In addition to the advertising industry, Chen Xingwen also had direct interactions with the fresh agricultural supply chain before founding Pupu. Qixinbao information shows that he once served as executive director of Fuzhou Cangqiong Ecological Agriculture Development Co., Ltd.; public reports describe the company's business as the supply of fresh food and central kitchen ingredients for catering and retail channels, involving agricultural product supply chain, food processing and channel distribution. [s15] [s1] This experience exposed him to problems such as fresh food procurement, loss control, ingredient standardization and B-end customer delivery before entering real-time retail. [s1] [s5] Unlike fresh food e-commerce entrepreneurs with a pure Internet background, Chen Xingwen understands both marketing and has been exposed to the agricultural product supply chain; the former helps Pu Pu acquire household users at a low cost, while the latter helps the company understand the true cost of the "dirty work" of fresh food. [s4] [s15]

Pupu’s official website describes the company’s mission as “making every ordinary person live a better life.” [s28] This sentence echoes Chen Xingwen’s advertising resume: Pupu’s early target users were not white-collar workers in first- and second-tier cities who pursued trendy concepts, but a large number of ordinary families—young parents with children, elderly people with inconveniences, and office workers who did not want to go to the market after work. The slogan of the advertisement is "It's hard to buy groceries with children, so it's better to wait for Pu Pu at home" and "Go to the square dance to your heart's content. You can use Pu Pu to buy groceries", which makes the matter of "saving time for ordinary families" very straightforward. [s4] [s23] This kind of expression is not an Internet-style grand narrative, but more like an advertiser's precise extraction of family scenes. [s4]

Low-key is also part of Chen Xingwen's personal style. Reports such as 21st Century Business Review and Financial World Weekly mentioned that Pu Pu rarely holds large-scale press conferences, and Chen Xingwen himself rarely speaks out as an "Internet celebrity founder"; the company builds its brand more through user experience, local advertising, rider services and product prices. [s24] [s1] Even when acquisition rumors swept the market in 2026, Pupu's responses were mostly "no relevant information yet", "no more news yet" or "no comment", rather than the founder personally coming forward to tell the story. [s3] [s13] [s20] For a company with more than 60,000 employees and more than 400 front-end warehouses, this silence itself is a distinctive organizational character. [s1] [s28]

From an archival perspective, the key to Chen Xingwen’s early experience lies not in the details of the legend, but in the convergence of three clues of ability: first, more than 20 years of advertising and marketing experience, which enabled him to understand consumers, communication, and brands; second, fresh food supply chain experience such as Cangqiong Ecological Agriculture, enabled him to understand procurement, loss, and delivery; third, the long-term Fujian business network rooted in Fuzhou enabled him to find a starting point in the local supply chain, property, talent, and government resources. [s4] [s5] [s15] These three clues came together in 2016 to form Pupu Supermarket, a real-time retail company that grew out of Fuzhou communities and front-end warehouses. [s2] [s28]

In public reports, Chen Xingwen’s early experience has always been associated with his identity as a “marketer”. Financial World Weekly, China Entrepreneur and other media traced Pu Pu’s starting point and mentioned that the founder had worked in the advertising and marketing industry for more than 20 years, served Fujian consumer brands such as Yinlu and Panpan, and was good at brand positioning and consumer communication. In the case of [s1] [s5] Jincuo Dao released by the Alibaba Cloud Innovation Center, Pu Pu was quickly understood and accepted by Fuzhou home users in its early days, partly due to the founding team’s grasp of advertising slogans, local promotions and life scenes. [s4] For a fresh food retail company, this kind of background is not common: many fresh food e-commerce founders come from the Internet, supply chain or traditional supermarkets, but Chen Xingwen is first and foremost a marketer who "knows how to sell things to consumers." [s4] [s5]

The most direct manifestation of Pu Pu’s advertising experience is the way his words are adapted into daily life. The two advertising slogans that appeared repeatedly in the report - "It's hard to buy groceries with children, so it's better to wait for Pu Pu at home" and "Let's go dance in the square and buy groceries with Pu Pu" - did not use industry concepts such as "new retail", "instant consumption" and "supply chain efficiency", but directly put users into the specific scenes of raising children, shopping for groceries for the elderly, and cooking after get off work. [s4] [s23] This kind of expression lowers the threshold for middle-aged and elderly home users to understand the App ordering, and also distinguishes Pupu from the beginning from the e-commerce platform of "young people trying new things", positioning it as an infrastructure that serves ordinary families' daily meals. [s4] [s28]

Another important experience of Chen Xingwen comes from the fresh agricultural supply chain. Qixinbao information shows that Chen Muwang once served as executive director of Fuzhou Cangqiong Ecological Agriculture Development Co., Ltd.; [s15] Financial World and other reports also mentioned that this experience in agriculture and food supply gave him exposure to fresh food procurement, processing, distribution and B-end catering retail channels before he founded Pupu. S1's advertising experience solves "why users place orders", and supply chain experience solves "how to deliver orders after placing orders"; the combination of the two enabled Pupu to neither stay in pure traffic thinking nor only follow the logic of traditional supermarkets to go online. [s1] [s4] [s15]

It is worth noting that public reports did not disclose Chen Xingwen’s date of birth, so this file does not fill in the year of birth and only retains the verifiable time anchor: when Pu Pu was founded in 2016, he was 41 years old. [s1] [s5] The identity information that can also be verified includes: He is from Nanping, Fujian, and has lived and started a business in Fuzhou for a long time; on the industrial and commercial and corporate information platform, the two names "Chen Xingwen" and "Chen Muwang" jointly point to Pu Pu's founder and core figures in related companies. [s5] [s15] [s2] For character files, this careful handling is more consistent with the principle of "recording only verifiable facts" than completing an unverifiable birth year. [s15]

Low profile is the most stable feature in Chen Xingwen's image. When 21st Century Business Review reported Pu Pu’s revenue of RMB 30 billion, it still needed to use a large number of employees, suppliers and industry insiders to piece together a portrait of the founder; [s24] Finance World also pointed out that when acquisition rumors were most intensive in 2026, Pu Pu’s side and the founder himself responded with restraint. [s1] Chinese Entrepreneur and other media also described him as an entrepreneur who does not have a platform, does not join a circle, and does not rely on the founder's IP. [s5] In an era where founder stories are used to attract traffic, this "invisible founder" style itself is part of Pu Pu's organizational culture: the main body of the brand exposed to the outside world is Pu Pu, not Chen Xingwen personally. [s1] [s5]

41 years old, 7 million and Fuzhou front warehouse: Pu Pu’s starting point

**English:** On June 12, 2016, Fuzhou Pupu E-Commerce Co., Ltd. was established. [s2] industrial and commercial information shows that the company was registered in Fuzhou, and the later public address pointed to the area of Hongxing Business Building, No. 56, Changle South Road, Yingzhou Street, Taijiang District; Pu Pu’s official website lists September 2016 as the time when Pu Pu officially operated in Fuzhou. [s2] [s28] [s29] This means that it only took Pu Pu about three months from company registration to business launch; but behind these three months are Chen Xingwen’s more than 20 years of experience in advertising and supply chain, a second entrepreneurial venture at the age of 41, and the prototype of a heavy-asset retail model. [s1] [s5]

Venture capital is the most frequently mentioned detail in Pu Pu Qidian. Multiple public reports mentioned that when Chen Xingwen started his business, he mortgaged his real estate and used his savings from his advertising company to raise about 7 million yuan to invest in Pupu. [s1] [s4] [s5] Compared with the hundreds of millions of dollars in financing later produced by fresh food e-commerce, 7 million yuan is not much; but for the front-end warehouse model, this money must also bear the cost of warehouse leasing, decoration, shelves, cold chain, picking personnel, rider team, App development, local promotion and the purchase of the first batch of goods. Almost every item is a cash expenditure. [s4] [s7] Precisely because of the limited start-up capital, Pu Pu did not take the path of "burning money on a large scale first and then slowly looking for models" from the beginning. Instead, he was forced to verify the unit economy in a single city in Fuzhou with careful calculation. [s4] [s6]

The entry point chosen by Pu Pu is instant retail through mobile app ordering, community front warehouse delivery, and delivery within 30 minutes. [s28] The so-called front warehouse is to open the warehouse close enough to consumers: the warehouse is not open to customers and does not assume the display and shopping functions of traditional supermarkets. Instead, it serves as a small fulfillment center covering a surrounding area of about 1.5 kilometers. After the user places an order on the App, the pickers in the warehouse will sort the goods and the riders will pick up the goods and deliver them. The goal is to deliver the goods within 30 minutes. [s7] [s28] Local media such as Fujian Business Network in early reports regarded Pupu as a new variable in Fuzhou’s retail format: it does not rely on prime store locations like traditional supermarkets, nor does it wait for next-day delivery like pure e-commerce. Instead, it uses a dense network of small warehouses and local riders to turn “grocery shopping” into an instant fulfillment service. [s7] [s8]

Pu Pu’s warehouse shape was on the large side from the beginning. Public reports show that its front warehouse area is mostly 800-1,000 square meters, and the fourth-generation warehouse type can reach about 1,500 square meters; the early SKUs were about 3,500, and later expanded to 6,000-8,000, covering high-frequency household needs such as vegetables and fruits, meat, poultry, eggs, milk, aquatic frozen products, grain and oil seasonings, daily necessities, maternal and infant pets, wine and beverages. [s4] [s6] [s24] The combination of large warehouses and multiple SKUs makes Pupu less like a "convenience store takeout" and more like an online supermarket opened behind a community: users can buy all dinner ingredients, breakfast for the next day, paper towels, laundry detergent and pet food in the same order, thereby increasing the unit price and frequency of repurchase. [s4] [s24]

This model was significantly different from the mainstream fresh food e-commerce at that time. Around 2016, new retail and fresh food e-commerce were gaining momentum. Some players emphasized the offline store experience, some offered large warehouses in cities with next-day delivery, and others explored community group buying. Pu Pu chose front-end warehouse instant delivery, which was heavier, more difficult, and more dependent on local operations. [s7] [s11] It does not seek to enter many cities at the beginning, but first densely deploys warehouses in Fuzhou, so that users can form the habit of "using Pu Pu when buying groceries" in a short enough time. [s7] [s23] Pu Pu’s official website later summarized the service as “30-minute delivery” and wrote its mission as “making every ordinary person live a better life.” [s28]

The Fuzhou market provides Pu Pu with a rare testing ground. As the capital of Fujian Province, Fuzhou has stable household consumption, dense neighborhoods, mature local supermarkets and farmer's market systems, and users are sensitive to the price and freshness of fresh food. At the same time, unlike Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, Fuzhou has been fully educated by various Internet retail platforms around 2016, which gives local entrepreneurs a relatively easy window for polishing. [s7] [s9] Oriental Tobacco News·Gold Weekly’s 2018 report has noted the changes brought about by Pu Pu in Fuzhou’s retail market, viewing it as a new channel that combines mobile Internet with local fresh food supply. [s9] People's Daily Online's report on Yonghui's "coming-of-age ceremony" in the same year also presented the fierce retail competition environment in Fuzhou from the side: local supermarket giants, farmers' markets and emerging online platforms compete for family tables in the same city. [s17]

Pu Pu's most important product decision in the early days was to achieve both "fast" and "complete". 30-minute delivery solves emergencies and convenience, while 6,000-8,000 SKUs solves one-stop shopping; the former makes users willing to try it, and the latter eliminates the need for users to go to the market or supermarket to re-purchase. [s4] [s28] In order to make users dare to buy fresh food online, Pu Pu made many seemingly "losing" designs in terms of product weight, quality and service, such as the "one more shrimp" that was later widely reported: 250 grams of boxed shrimp often weighs about 260 grams in actual weighing, and an extra shrimp is added to give users an "exceeding expectation" feeling when opening the box. [s1] [s4] Such details are not simple promotions, but Chen Xingwen’s understanding of word-of-mouth communication as a former advertiser: Instead of investing all the money in advertising, it is better to allow users to obtain reproducible service memories in each order. [s4] [s23]

After Fuzhou officially opened in September 2016, Pu Pu did not immediately tell the story of national expansion. [s28] [s29] It first builds a warehouse in Fuzhou, runs the warehouse's flow, trains riders, tests the SKU structure, polishes after-sales rules, and runs a clear cycle of a front-end warehouse from site selection, decoration, distribution, recruitment to break-even. [s7] [s4] Chuangye.com and other media later pointed out when discussing the front-end warehouse model that Pu Pu’s “advance” and “retreat” revolved around the regional model: cities that cannot be penetrated by the model will not be easy to enter, and cities after entering will pursue density and permeability. This rhythm of [s11] was later summarized by the media as Pu Pu's "slowness" - but it was this slowness that allowed him to practice heavy operational skills in Fuzhou before "going down the mountain" in 2018. [s9] [s23]

From the industrial and commercial registration in June 2016, to the Fuzhou launch in September 2016, and then to the subsequent cities such as Xiamen, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Chengdu, Quanzhou and other cities, Pu Pu’s starting point was not dazzling: there was no aura of a star founder, no high-profile opening like a press conference, only a set of warehouse distribution models that were repeatedly polished in the Fuzhou community. [s2] [s28] [s29] But in hindsight, 41-year-old Chen Xingwen bet his advertising experience, fresh food supply chain experience and Fujian local resources on the small matter of "30-minute delivery", which happened to meet the long-term needs of home users for immediacy, certainty and convenience. [s4] [s5] [s28]

When Pu Pu started, the retail environment in Fuzhou was not blank. There are local supermarket giants like Yonghui, which has spread from Fujian to the country, a large number of farmers' markets and community stores, and e-commerce and takeout platforms that are gradually entering; [s17] [s7] If a new brand wants users to change their grocery shopping habits, it must answer three questions at the same time: Why don't you go to the vegetable market? Why not go to the supermarket? Why do you need to order via mobile phone now? The answer Pu Pu gave was not a concept, but "delivered to your home in 30 minutes" and "you can buy a complete meal on your mobile phone." [s28] [s4]

From the perspective of capital structure, the start-up capital of approximately 7 million yuan determines that Pupu must attach great importance to cash efficiency in the early stage. Every money spent on [s1] [s4] front-end warehouses is sunk in rent, shelves, freezers, inventory and personnel, and cannot be copied as quickly as pure Internet products; if there are insufficient orders in a single warehouse, the more warehouses there are, the greater the losses. [s11] Therefore, in the early days, Pupu did not spend a lot of money on national expansion, but repeatedly verified in Fuzhou: what size of warehouse is most suitable, how many SKUs are most reasonable, how far the delivery radius can be to ensure 30 minutes, which categories are most likely to bring repeat purchases, and how to schedule riders and picking. [s4] [s7]

The large warehouse model was also developed under this kind of capital constraint. Public reports show that Pupu’s warehouses are mostly 800-1,000 square meters, and the subsequent fourth-generation warehouses are about 1,500 square meters. SKUs have expanded from about 3,500 to 6,000-8,000; [s4] [s6] [s24] For users, this means that Pupu is not just “delivering food”, but can buy vegetables, meat and poultry, aquatic products, fruits, milk, eggs, paper towels, laundry detergent, snacks and drinks in one order. [s4] For operations, large warehouses increase the upper limit of orders that a single warehouse can carry, and also give the efficiency of pickers, riders, freezers, and warehouse management staff a greater chance to be fully utilized. [s24]

Pu Pu’s early customer acquisition methods also have the characteristics of Fuzhou’s local community business. Case reports such as Jincuodao mentioned that Pu Pu attracts new customers through offline promotion, community advertising, coupons and straightforward family scene language, but more importantly, it uses the fulfillment experience to retain users: fast delivery, sufficient portions, refreshing after-sales service, and down-to-earth rider service. Details such as S4’s “give an extra shrimp” and riders helping to carry garbage were later cited repeatedly by the media, precisely because they all occurred in the first, second and third orders that are most easily perceived by users. [s1] [s4] For new platforms, the first thing is subsidies alone, and long-term repurchase depends on certainty. [s4] [s24]

Local media such as Fujian Business Network have noticed in early reports that Pupu hides its warehouses around the community and does not display traditional stores. Instead, it completes product display and ordering through the mobile Internet; this makes its rental logic, personnel logic and inventory logic different from traditional supermarkets. [s7] Traditional supermarkets use prime locations and shelf displays to attract customers. Pupu uses the App homepage, search and recommendations to complete the "display", and uses front warehouses and riders to complete the entire process of "arrival at the store - shopping - taking home". [s7] [s28] This is still a new habit in Fuzhou in 2016 that requires education to the market. [s9]

Therefore, Pu Pu from 2016 to 2018 can be regarded as an "Internet company doing offline hard work in Fuzhou": online is the App and orders, but offline is the warehouse, cold chain, riders, procurement, loss and after-sales. [s7] [s28] Chen Xingwen did not package this model as an asset-light story, but spent the past three years in Fuzhou to run the important operational details smoothly; [s4] [s23] When the company internally shouted in 2018, "It's time for Pu Pu to go down the mountain," what it wanted to bring down the mountain was not a business plan, but a set of warehousing and distribution methods that had been verified on the dining tables of Fuzhou families. [s9] [s23]

Large warehouse, 30-minute delivery and front warehouse models: Pu Pu’s operation chassis

**English:** The core of the Pupu model is to use "large front warehouse + instant delivery + high-frequency fresh food" to reconstruct daily household purchases. Pupu's official website directly writes the service standard as 30 minutes delivery. Users place orders through Pupu App, and the orders enter the front warehouse closest to the user. The goods are picked, packed and handed over to the rider in the warehouse, and then the rider completes the last mile delivery. [s28] Compared with traditional stores, the front warehouse does not undertake shopping and display functions; compared with pure online large warehouses, it places inventory about 1.5 kilometers away from consumers, trading density for timeliness. [s7] [s24]

Warehouse type is an important difference between Pupu and many real-time retail players. Public reports show that Pupu’s front warehouse area is mostly 800-1,000 square meters, and the subsequent fourth-generation warehouse type can reach about 1,500 square meters; the number of SKUs has expanded from about 3,500 in the early days to 6,000-8,000. [s4] [s6] [s24] large warehouses bring triple effects: first, they can accommodate a more complete fresh food, fast-moving consumer goods and daily goods structure, improving one-stop shopping capabilities; second, a single warehouse can cover more orders, improving the use efficiency of pickers, riders and cold chain equipment; third, the warehouse can be divided into refrigerated, frozen, aquatic products, fruits and vegetables, standard products and other areas according to categories, reducing fresh food fulfillment losses. [s4] [s24] Of course, large warehouses also mean higher rents, heavier renovations and greater management difficulties. Once the order density of a single warehouse is insufficient, losses will be quickly amplified. [s11] [s6]

Pupu's delivery radius is usually about 1.5 kilometers, and the target fulfillment time is 30 minutes. [s7] [s28] This set of radius does not simply pursue "the faster the better", but strikes a balance between timeliness, rider load, order density and product integrity: if the radius is too short, too many warehouses are needed, and rent and inventory are duplicated; if the radius is too long, 30-minute delivery is difficult to stabilize, and the performance risk of fresh and frozen goods increases. [s7] [s24] Pupu improves coverage through dense warehouse deployment in mature cities such as Fuzhou and Xiamen, so that the same warehouse can serve enough communities and office buildings, and then uses order density to dilute fulfillment costs. [s6] [s8]

In terms of product structure, Pupu uses fresh food as its traffic entrance, but does not limit itself to a "vegetable selling platform". Public reports show that its fresh food sales accounted for about 60% at one time. Later, with the expansion of daily necessities, drinks, maternal and child, pets, snack foods and other categories, the fresh food sales ratio dropped to about 50%, and it is reported that it is expected to continue to adjust to about 45%. [s24] [s1] The significance of this change is that fresh food has high frequency but high losses and high fulfillment costs; daily and standard product gross profits are more stable and losses are lower, which can balance the profit structure of a single warehouse. Pu Pu uses fresh food to attract users to frequently open the app, and uses high-margin standard products and private brands to improve profitability. [s24] [s4]

Private brands are an important driver of profit after the model is run through. Public reports mentioned that Pupu has launched its own brands such as "Youci" and "Suizi", covering categories such as paper towels, snacks, drinking water, daily necessities, and processed foods. The number of SKUs exceeds 750, and there are reports that its annual sales of its own brands reach billions of yuan. The logic of [s1] S24's own brands is highly consistent with the front-end warehouse model: the platform masters high-frequency consumption data and can reversely customize specifications, packaging and prices; after eliminating the premium of intermediate brands, the products can not only maintain low prices, but also contribute higher gross profits to the platform. [s24] [s4] This is also one of the important reasons why Pupu can gradually improve its profitability while maintaining delivery timeliness and promotion efforts. [s24]

Fulfillment costs and loss rate are the two life and death lines in the front-end warehouse industry. Reports such as 21st Century Business Review quoted data as saying that Pu Pu’s gross profit margin around 2024 will be approximately 22.5%, and its performance expense rate will be controlled within 17.5%. As a reference, Dingdong Maicai’s related performance expense rate will be approximately 22.9%; Pu Pu’s fresh food loss rate will be approximately 1.5%. [s24] These figures come from media reports, not audit reports, but they all point to the fact that through warehouse type, SKU, order density, private brand and regional cultivation, Pu Pu has reduced the most difficult fulfillment cost of front-end warehouses to a manageable range. [s24] [s26] Rui Finance’s report on Pu Pu’s first full-year profit in 2024 also attributed the model improvement to the increase in density in mature cities, optimization of category structure and improvement in operational efficiency. [s26]

Riders and labor mechanisms are the other side of the performance chassis. An investigative report by Sina Finance in 2026 mentioned that Pu Pu has an obvious part-time employment structure at some urban sites, with only 1 out of about 100 riders at the South China site working full-time; the report also focused on issues such as delivery fees, thresholds, and rider management. [s30] At the same time, multiple reports have also recorded some of Pupu’s service policies for riders, such as providing riders with free electricity, no deposit rental, and no fines for overtime, etc., in order to reduce rider access costs and stabilize transportation capacity. [s1] [s25] For files, this information should be recorded side by side: on the one hand, flexible staffing helps the platform adjust shipping capacity between the peaks and troughs of orders; on the other hand, labor relations, income stability, and changes in delivery fees also constitute common issues faced by the just-in-time retail industry. [s30] [s1]

The fee rules on the client side have also undergone adjustments. Public reports show that Pu Pu’s early delivery-free threshold was low. Later, as fulfillment costs and market environment changed, the minimum delivery threshold gradually increased from about 19 yuan to about 35 yuan. If the threshold is not met, a delivery fee of about 3 yuan will be charged; the delivery fee has also been adjusted from about 5 yuan to 3.5 yuan, 3.2 yuan, 3 yuan and other levels. The Fuzhou market once had a user base of about 2.5 yuan. [s30] [s1] On the surface, these are just price details; in fact, they reflect the process of the front-end warehouse model shifting from subsidizing customer acquisition to refined operations: the platform must form a sustainable relationship between the gross profit of each order, delivery fee, customer unit price and rider cost. [s30] [s24]

The words of Pu Pu’s marketing manager are often quoted: “We have calculated that the new users brought by investing 1 yuan in advertising are not as good as the repurchases brought by optimizing services for 1 yuan.” [s4] [s23] This sentence can explain why Pu Pu is willing to invest in details such as “giving an extra shrimp”, riders helping to carry garbage, after-sales compensation, delivery timeliness and other details: these investments do not bring immediate exposure like advertising, but they can form word-of-mouth repurchases among community home users. [s1] [s4] Jincuo Dao case report calls Pu Pu the "hidden champion" of fresh food e-commerce, emphasizing that it does not rely on the founder's voice, but relies on the density of single cities and user repurchases to expand the market. [s4]

By around 2025, Pupu's official website shows that the company has entered Fuzhou, Xiamen, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Chengdu, Quanzhou and other cities, with more than 60,000 employees; media reports claim that the company has more than 400 front-end warehouses. [s28] [s1] [s24] A project that was originally launched in Fuzhou with about 7 million yuan and started as a community front warehouse has eventually grown into an instant retail network covering multiple cities and tens of thousands of employees. What [s4] [s28] supports this network is not a single technical gimmick, but an operational chassis composed of warehouse type, SKU, supply chain, rider, price, after-sales and regional density. [s7] [s24] [s28]

The difficulty with the front-end warehouse model is that it appears to be “delivering food”, but in reality it is a complete set of retail operations. The food delivery platform connects merchants and riders, and the products are prepared by the merchants; Pu Pu is responsible for product procurement, inventory, warehouse picking, cold chain, loss, pricing, after-sales and distribution. [s24] [s28] The location of each product in the warehouse, the quantity of each replenishment, the picking path of each order, and the picking radius of each rider will all affect whether the 30-minute promise can be stably fulfilled. [s7] [s24]

Warehouse operations are the part of the model that is least visible to users but most decisive for the experience. The front warehouse of 800-1000 square meters must simultaneously store normal temperature standard products, refrigerated goods, frozen goods, vegetables, fruits, aquatic meat and poultry. When the number of SKUs reaches 6000-800, the warehouse movement lines, shelf numbers, inventory counting and loss reporting processes must be standardized. [s4] [s24] After a user places an order, the picker must find multiple items within a few minutes, confirm the condition and weight, and package them for delivery to the rider; any out-of-stock, incorrectly picked, missed, or quality issues will be directly perceived by the user within 30 minutes. [s4] [s1]

The delivery side is also not simply "fast". Pupu controls the delivery radius to about 1.5 kilometers, and the official website promises delivery in 30 minutes; [s7] [s28] This radius allows riders to travel back and forth within a controllable time, and also shortens the time for frozen, refrigerated and fresh products on the road as much as possible. [s24] In high-density cities such as Fuzhou and Xiamen, overlapping coverage and capacity synergy can be formed between warehouses; in new cities, if the order density is insufficient, the same number of warehouses and riders may be in a state of inefficiency for a long time. [s6] [s11] This explains why Pu Pu insists on deep regional cultivation: the more front-end warehouses, the better, but the denser the orders in a single warehouse, the better. [s11] [s23]

The adjustment of commodity structure also serves the efficiency of contract fulfillment. Fresh food is the most common reason for users to open Pupu, but aquatic products, leafy vegetables, fruits and other categories have high losses, complicated weighing, and many after-sales services; standard products such as daily necessities, drinks, snacks, maternal and infant products, and pet supplies have low losses, fast picking, and relatively stable gross profits. [s24] Public reports show that the proportion of Pupu Fresh Food has dropped from about 60% in the early stage to about 50%, and is expected to continue to adjust to about 45%; [s24] [s1] This is not to give up on fresh food, but to use fresh food to establish high-frequency entrances, and then use more abundant household consumption categories to improve customer unit prices and profit stability. [s24] [s4]

Private brands transform the data advantages of the platform into product advantages. The report mentioned that there are more than 750 SKUs of its own brands such as "Youci" and "Suizi", covering categories such as paper towels, drinking water, snacks, daily necessities, and processed foods. The [s1] [s24] front-end warehouse platform directly faces a large number of household orders every day, and can know which specifications, price ranges and repurchase cycles are the most popular. After reversely customizing products, the platform can not only reduce brand premiums, but also make packaging specifications more suitable for immediate delivery and small family consumption. [s24]

The operating data in public reports provide a staged footnote for this model: around 2024, Pupu’s gross profit margin will be approximately 22.5%, the fulfillment expense rate will be controlled within 17.5%, and the fresh food loss rate will be approximately 1.5%. [s24] These figures are not audit-proof, but together they show that Pupu’s large warehouses, SKUs, order density and supply chain management have reduced the heaviest fulfillment and loss costs in the front-end warehouse industry to an operational level. [s24] [s26] For a business that has long been regarded as "giving away one order and losing one", this cost structure can better explain why it will reach a profit turning point in 2024 than the number of cities. [s26]

Labor and delivery fee adjustments illustrate the other side of the model. Sina Finance reported in 2026 that attention was paid to the part-time operation of some Pu Pu sites, the increase in the minimum delivery threshold to about 35 yuan, a delivery fee of 3 yuan for insufficient thresholds, and a reduction in rider delivery fees; [s30] At the same time, there are also reports and records that the platform provides riders with free car electricity, no deposit rent, no fines for overtime and other arrangements. [s1] [s25] These facts together constitute the complex face of real-time retail labor organization: the platform needs stable transportation capacity, riders care about income and security, and users care about delivery fees and timeliness. The balance between the three is still a long-term issue in the industry. [s30] [s1]

Fujian supply chain and “give one more shrimp”: simple service culture

**English:** The front warehouse is just the front desk of Pu Pu, and what really determines its life and death is the back-end supply chain. Before Chen Xingwen founded Pupu, he worked for Fuzhou Cangqiong Ecological Agriculture Development Co., Ltd. Qixinbao information shows that he served as the company's executive director; public reports describe the company's business as fresh food supply for catering and retail channels, and central kitchen ingredient processing and distribution. [s15] [s1] This experience made Pupu not a pure Internet team when it started, but entered the home retail market with experience in agricultural product procurement, ingredient standardization, cold chain circulation and B-side delivery. [s1] [s5]

The first feature of Pupu's supply chain is its deep integration with local suppliers in Fujian. Multiple media reports mentioned that Pupu has established a high-frequency replenishment system in mature markets such as Fuzhou and Xiamen by relying on a large number of local agricultural product suppliers, wholesalers and processing companies; vegetables, fruits, aquatic products, meat and poultry and other categories emphasize freshness, short links and rapid turnover. [s4] [s24] For front-end warehouses, fresh food loss is one of the biggest cost black holes. Replenishing too much will cause it to rot in the warehouse, while replenishing too little will cause shortages and hurt the experience. The local supply chain can shorten the time from the origin/wholesale market to the front-end warehouse, making small batches and high-frequency replenishment possible. [s24] [s7]

The supplier cooperation rules also reflect the coexistence of Pupu’s strength and commitment. Public reports mentioned that Pu Pu requires some suppliers to provide exclusive supply or customized specifications, and promise not to return goods or press money at will; in exchange, suppliers need to give competitive quotations, and the quotations for some products can be about 30% to 35% lower than traditional channels. [s1] [s24] "No returns" means that the platform bears sales risks for suppliers, and can be exchanged for suppliers' cooperation in price, quality control and response speed; exclusive supply and customized specifications help Pupu differentiate its products from traditional supermarkets and avoid completely homogeneous price wars. [s24] [s4]

The statement "more than 2,000 loyal suppliers" also appeared in the report to describe the supply network Pu Pu has accumulated in the Fujian and South China markets. The number [s1] comes from media interviews and is not a company audit disclosure, but it is mutually confirmed with Pupu’s high-density operations in Fuzhou and Xiamen: when a platform has enough front-end warehouses and stable orders in a single city, its suppliers’ bargaining power, customization capabilities, and replenishment efficiency will be significantly improved. [s1] [s8] Clean vegetables and semi-finished ingredients such as Youye Shredded Potatoes are reported to be popular products among home users on the Pupu platform. Such products move kitchen tasks such as washing, cutting, and preparing to the supply chain, meeting the needs of young families to "prepare meals within 30 minutes." [s4] [s24]

In terms of service culture, "give one more shrimp" is Pu Pu's most frequently repeated detail. Reports such as Financial World Weekly and Jincuo Dao Case mentioned that when Pu Pu sells 250 grams of boxed shrimp, the actual weight is often around 260 grams, and an extra shrimp is included. When users place an order for shrimp, they open the box and find that the quantity exceeds expectations, which naturally leads to good reviews and repeat purchases. [s1] [s4] This detail may seem simple, but it accurately reflects the combination of Chen Xingwen’s advertising and marketing background and fresh food supply chain capabilities: advertisers know what details are most easily perceived and relayed by users, and the supply chain team must ensure that this “oversupply” does not break down costs. [s4] [s23]

Similar service designs also include riders helping to collect garbage, quick after-sales compensation, proactive communication about shortages, and timely refunds for product quality issues. [s1] [s4] In the real-time retail scenario, users' trust in the platform is not established at one time, but accumulated through the specific experiences of "the food is not fresh, the shrimp is not enough, the rider is fast, and the after-sales service is not troublesome". Pu Pu’s marketing manager’s statement that “it’s better to invest 1 yuan in advertising than to use 1 yuan to optimize services to bring repeat purchases” is a footnote to this service culture. [s4] [s23]

Pu Pu's advertising slogan also continues the family scene orientation. Expressions such as "It's hard to buy groceries with children, why not wait for Pu Pu at home", "Let's go dance in the square and use Pu Pu when buying groceries", etc., clearly target the parents with children and elderly families, and also translate the daily pain point of "buying groceries is hard" into a solution of "place an order on your mobile phone and get it delivered in 30 minutes". [s4] [s23] Different from the new retail language that emphasizes the exquisite life of white-collar workers, Pu Pu’s language is closer to the language of the community, straightforward, down-to-earth, and has the flavor of local Fujian life. [s4] [s7]

Riders are the end performers of service culture. In public reports, on the one hand, Pu Pu was recorded as providing riders with policies such as free electricity, no deposit rent, no fines for overtime, and other policies that lower the threshold for employment; [s1] [s25] On the other hand, Sina Finance’s 2026 investigation also paid attention to issues such as part-time employment, reduced delivery fees, and rider income stability. The [s30] file does not make a one-way evaluation of this, but only records the facts: the service commitments of the instant retail platform are ultimately fulfilled by the riders, and the platform needs to continuously adjust between performance timeliness, rider costs, user delivery fees, and labor relations. [s1] [s30]

Pu Pu’s organizational skills are also reflected in his “picking out details”. As large as the category zoning, refrigeration and freezing temperatures, and picking paths in the 800-1,000 square meter warehouse, as small as putting an extra shrimp in a box and carrying a garbage bag downstairs, they are all components of whether the front-end warehouse model can form a good reputation among users. [s4] [s24] 21st Century Business Review reported that Pu Pu was able to maintain high repurchase rates in markets such as Fuzhou and Xiamen not so much by subsidies but by stable expectations for products, contract performance and after-sales. [s24] When users know that “when placing an order at Pu Pu, there is a high probability that it will arrive within half an hour, there will be someone to take care of any shortages, and you will be compensated for any problems with fresh food,” the platform will transform from a tool for early adopters into a household purchasing infrastructure. [s24] [s28]

Judging from the founder's experience, Chen Xingwen combined the advertising company's sensitivity to consumer psychology with Cangqiong Ecological Agriculture's understanding of the fresh food supply chain, and synthesized a simple service methodology: use a strong supply chain to reduce losses and costs, use services that exceed expectations to create reputation, and use repeat purchases instead of simply attracting new customers to dilute customer acquisition costs. [s1] [s4] [s15] This methodology may not be applicable to all cities, but in Fuzhou, Xiamen and other markets with the highest density, it has indeed supported the expansion of the platform from 0 to more than 400 front-end warehouses and more than 60,000 employees. [s28] [s1] [s24]

The underlying logic of Pupu's supply chain can be summarized as "exchanging stable orders for supplier efficiency, and using local short chains to ensure freshness." In mature markets such as Fuzhou and Xiamen, Pupu has high order density and high replenishment frequency. Suppliers can arrange picking, processing, packaging and distribution around the needs of the platform; the platform in turn guides categories and specifications through sales data. [s24] [s4] For commodities with large price fluctuations and high losses such as vegetables, fruits, and aquatic products, short links and fast turnover are more important than one-time price reduction. [s24]

The supplier cooperation conditions mentioned in media reports reflect the retail platform’s deep involvement in the supply chain. Pupu requires exclusive supply or customized specifications for some products, and shares sales risks by non-return, stable procurement, etc. In exchange, suppliers provide lower quotations and more flexible cooperation, and the quotations of some commodities are about 30%-35% lower than those through traditional channels. [s1] [s24] This kind of cooperation is not suitable for all suppliers, but for suppliers who can cooperate with standardization, scale and high-frequency replenishment, Pupu means confirmed large-volume orders. [s24]

The "no returns" rule is especially worth documenting. In the traditional supermarket system, suppliers often have to bear the pressure of unsalable returns and payment deadlines; Pupu uses the platform to bear sales risks in exchange for price and response, and also puts the pressure of inventory management on its own data and ordering capabilities. [s1] [s24] This requires the platform to have a more accurate prediction of single warehouse sales: ordering too little will lead to shortages, and ordering too much will lead to losses. The reported loss rate of Pu Pu Fresh Food is about 1.5%. It is against this background that it has become one of the indicators of operating capabilities. [s24]

Clean vegetables and semi-finished products are another manifestation of supply chain capabilities. For products such as Youye Shredded Potatoes mentioned in the report, kitchen work such as cleaning and cutting is completed at the supply chain end, and users can cook them directly after receiving them; [s4] [s24] For young families and office workers, this type of product saves not shopping distance, but food preparation time. After it is combined with Pupu’s 30-minute delivery, it forms a scenario of “ordering food on the way to get off work, picking up/receiving the goods near home, and eating quickly”. [s28] S4’s later Pupu Kitchen internal testing can also be seen as an extension of this logic from clean dishes to freshly prepared meals. [s27]

In terms of service culture, Pupu rarely uses grand slogans to express user value, but instead puts its commitments into concrete actions. "Give one more shrimp" allows users to get more than expected from weighed goods; [s1] and [s4] riders help take away garbage, promptly refund after-sales, and quickly compensate for quality problems, allowing users to build up the expectation that "if there is a problem, someone will take care of it" on the platform. [s1] [s4] Pu Pu’s marketing manager’s statement that “1 yuan for advertising is not as good as 1 yuan for optimized services to bring repeat purchases”, explaining why these seemingly uneconomical details are persisted by the company for a long time. [s4] [s23]

This kind of culture is not inconsistent with Chen Xingwen’s advertising background. The core ability of advertising and marketing is not to create gimmicks, but to find memory points that users are willing to spread and remember; [s4] "Give one more shrimp" is more easily recited by home users than any brand slogan, because it occurs at the moment of opening the lunch box and preparing to cook, and is directly related to trust and surprise. [s1] [s4] When this kind of memory point appears repeatedly in the community, Pupu is no longer just a low-price app, but becomes a grocery shopping channel that neighbors recommend to each other. [s4]

However, replicating service commitments at scale cannot be achieved without front-line employees. The official website shows that Pupu has more than 60,000 employees, [s28] of which warehouse and distribution positions account for a high proportion; it is far more difficult for an organization of 60,000 people to maintain the same weighing, picking, distribution and after-sales standards in different cities than single-point service innovation. [s1] [s30] Sina Finance’s investigation into changes in part-time employment and delivery fees reminds readers that behind the service experience of just-in-time retail, there is a realistic tension between cost efficiency and workers’ rights. The [s30] archives record these details in order to fully present the organizational foundation and costs of a simple service culture. [s1] [s30]

Fuzhou, Xiamen and family dining tables: simple base markets

**English:** Pu Pu’s real “home base” is Fujian, especially Fuzhou and Xiamen. After officially operating in Fuzhou in September 2016, Pu Pu did not rush to roll it out across the country. Instead, he first repeatedly encrypted the front warehouse and polished the supply chain and user habits in Fuzhou. [s28] [s29] In early reports, local media such as Fujian Business Network regarded Pupu as a representative enterprise of mobile Internet retail and fresh food delivery in Fuzhou, paying attention to how it uses apps, front-end warehouses and rider networks to change the way citizens buy food. [s7] [s8]

The particularity of the Fuzhou market is that it has both Yonghui, a supermarket giant that has spread from Fuzhou to the country, and a dense farmer's market, community shops and mature family dining table consumption habits. People's Daily Online's 2018 report on Yonghui's "coming-of-age ceremony" showed the depth of retail competition in Fuzhou from the side: local supermarket giants have long occupied the minds of household purchases, and farmers' markets still retain their price and freshness advantages. New entrants must give clear reasons in terms of price, convenience and experience. [s17] Pu Pu’s choice is not to compete with traditional supermarkets for stores, but to shift the battlefield to mobile phones and community front warehouses: users do not need to shop, carry, or wait for the next day, and it will be delivered to their homes within 30 minutes. [s7] [s28]

Market penetration data are often used by the media to prove Pu Pu’s success in Fuzhou. Reports such as 21st Century Business Review and Financial World Weekly mentioned that Pupu's home user penetration rate in Fuzhou once reached about 70%. As a comparison, Yonghui's local penetration rate is about 50%; the customer price in the Fuzhou and Xiamen markets is about 80 yuan, and the average daily orders for mature front-end warehouses can reach more than 3,000 orders. Some warehouses in Guangzhou even have more than 4,000 orders. [s24] [s1] These figures come from media reports and industry surveys, not company audit data. However, different reports are highly consistent on the point that "Fuzhou and Xiamen are Pupu's most mature and highest-density markets." [s24] [s8]

Behind the high penetration rate is Pu Pu’s adaptation to the rhythm of Fuzhou family life. The frequency of fresh food purchases in southern cities is high, and vegetables, aquatic products, and fruits are all about freshness. Household users often buy them once a day or for every meal. Traditionally, shopping for vegetables requires going to the market or supermarket, which is time-consuming and labor-intensive. Pu Pu takes 30 minutes to cover all scenarios such as last-minute grocery shopping, grocery shopping after get off work, purchasing on rainy days, and being unable to go out with children. [s4] [s7] For the elderly, Pu Pu lowers the psychological threshold with slogans such as "Go square dancing to your heart's content, and buy groceries with Pu Pu." For young parents, Pu Pu directly hits the pressure of caregiving with the slogan "It's hard to take your baby shopping for groceries, so it's better to wait for Pu Pu at home." [s4] [s23]

Xiamen is Pu Pu’s first stop for “going down the mountain”. In July 2018, Pupu entered Xiamen and copied the Fuzhou Paotong model to another high-consumption, high-density city in Fujian Province. [s29] [s8] Xiamen and Fuzhou are different in city size, population structure and business environment, but they both belong to Fujian, have similar living habits, and the supply chain can rely on intra-provincial network coordination, which allows Pu Pu to complete the first cross-city replication at a low trial and error cost. [s8] [s7] According to public reports, Xiamen later tied with Fuzhou as the mature market with the most stable unit price and penetration rate of Puke. [s24]

In the base markets of Fuzhou and Xiamen, Pupu has also formed a pattern of ebb and flow with its competitors. Media reports mentioned that Hema once entered Fuzhou and then withdrew, and Dingdong Maicai experienced shrinkage in markets such as Fuzhou and Xiamen. Pu Pu relied on its local supply chain, warehouse density and service reputation to maintain the market. [s1] [s24] This process is not a simple matter of "who Pu Pu defeats", but the cost structure difference between different models in the regional market: when the density of a national platform in a single city is insufficient, front-end warehouse fulfillment costs and marketing costs are difficult to dilute; Pu Pu focuses on a few cities for a long time, increasing the density of warehouses, riders, suppliers and users to repurchase, making it easier to cross the break-even line. [s11] [s24]

2018 is a critical year for Pu Pu to gain a foothold in the Fujian market. Oriental Tobacco News and Golden Weekly's report in November 2018 has paid attention to Pu Pu's new role in Fuzhou's retail channels; [s9] People's Daily's report on Yonghui in December of the same year showed that Fuzhou's local retail competition has entered a stage of online and offline integration, with traditional supermarkets and emerging platforms competing for home users. [s17] It was also during this period that Pu Pu's internal annual meeting proposed that "it's time for Pu Pu to come down the mountain": after practicing martial arts hard in Fuzhou, Xiamen should be used as the first step out of the base area, and other cities should be used as "sword training grounds" to test the model. [s9] [s23]

Another asset that Pu Pu has in the base market is its employer and organizational scale. The official website shows that Pupu has more than 60,000 employees; [s28] media reported that it has more than 400 front-end warehouses. [s1] [s24] For a private retail company that started in Fuzhou, more than 60,000 employees mean a large number of warehouse picking, distribution, customer service, procurement, operation and maintenance, and city management positions; most of these positions directly serve the local community, making Pu Pu one of the important employers of real-time retail and urban life services in Fuzhou. [s28] [s25]

A detail on the ninth anniversary shows the localized nature of the relationship between Pu Pu and Fuzhou users. Around September 12, 2025, the ninth anniversary of Pu Pu’s opening, the company set up a food stall downstairs at the Fuzhou headquarters to interact with employees and users. [s25] For a company whose annual revenue is reported to be about 30 billion yuan, this is not a large-scale brand launch conference, but more like an anniversary celebration of a community store; this down-to-earth action is in the same vein as Pu Pu’s early advertising slogans, riders helping to carry garbage, “give an extra shrimp” and other details. [s25] [s4]

Fuzhou and Xiamen prove the upper limit of the Pupu model: when a city's warehouse density, supply chain, rider network and user repurchase are established at the same time, front-end warehouses can transform from the concept of "burning money in exchange for growth" into a sustainable retail infrastructure. [s24] [s28] However, the success of the base market also brings new questions: Can this model, which is highly dependent on local supply chain and density, still be established after leaving Fujian? After "going down the mountain" in 2018, Pu Pu must answer this question using cities such as Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Wuhan, and Chengdu. [s6] [s8] [s29]

The meaning of Fuzhou market to Pu Pu is similar to that of "main school" and "arsenal". Pu Pu completed a full set of training here from front warehouse site selection, warehouse operations, supply chain replenishment to rider performance, and also formed the earliest brand reputation here. [s7] [s28] Local media reports such as Fujian Business Network show that Pupu was regarded as a new variable in Fuzhou's retail industry in its early days. It combined mobile Internet ordering with local fresh food supply, changing the habit of some citizens who "have to go to the market or supermarket to buy food." [s7] [s9]

The competition Pu Pu faces in Fuzhou is not weak. Yonghui started in Fuzhou and grew into a national supermarket company, and has long been familiar with household consumption in Fujian; the [s17] farmer's market still has advantages in price and freshness, while community stores are convenient for emergency purchases. Pupu's differentiation lies in "no need to go out" and "30-minute delivery": users do not have to drag their tired bodies to the market after get off work, nor do they have to carry a few green onions, a bag of rice, and a box of water themselves. [s28] [s4] For families with children and elderly users, this convenience is especially easy to translate into high-frequency use. [s4] [s23]

The penetration figures in public reports show the density of the Fuzhou market. Reports such as 21st Century Business Review and Caijingtianxia mentioned that Pupu’s home user penetration rate in Fuzhou is about 70%, and Yonghui’s is about 50%; the unit price per customer in Fuzhou and Xiamen is about 80 yuan, and the average daily orders for mature warehouses are more than 3,000 orders. [s24] [s1] These figures are not company audit disclosures, but they are mutually corroborated with Pu Pu’s long-term high coverage and high density of warehouses in Fuzhou and Xiamen. [s24] [s8] For front-end warehouses, penetration rate and order density are the foundation of the profit model. [s11]

Xiamen, as the first stop for "going down the mountain", assumes the verification function of cross-city replication. After entering Xiamen in July 2018, Pupu migrated Fuzhou's warehouse types, SKUs, advertising slogans and service standards, and at the same time adjusted its categories according to Xiamen's local consumption habits. [s29] [s8] Xiamen and Fuzhou are close to each other and have convenient supply chain coordination. They also have high household consumption power and mobile Internet acceptance. Therefore, it has become a key step for Pupu to transform from a "Fuzhou company" to a "Fujian regional company". [s8] [s24]

Changes in the competitive landscape also occur at this stage. Media reports mentioned that Hema entered Fuzhou and then withdrew, Dingdong Maicai shrank in Fuzhou, Xiamen and other places, while Pupu continued to maintain high-density local operations. [s1] [s24] Such market changes cannot be simply attributed to the advantages and disadvantages of a single company. We should also see the dependence of the front-end warehouse model on regional density: if the order density of a national platform is insufficient in a single city, it will be difficult to spread warehouse rent, riders and marketing costs; Pu Pu has been deeply involved in Fuzhou and Xiamen for a long time, and has densely packed warehouses and users, making it easier for the model to cross the profit and loss line. [s11] [s24]

Around 2018, Pu Pu’s high attention in Fujian can also be seen from local and national media reports. Oriental Tobacco News and Golden Weekly paid attention to the changes in Pu Pu as a new retail channel in 2018. [s9] People's Daily reported on Yonghui's "coming-of-age ceremony" in the same year, which presented the background of intensified online and offline competition in Fuzhou's retail market. [s17] It was in this year that Pu Pu proposed to "go down the mountain" at the internal annual meeting: before, he had practiced martial arts hard in Fuzhou, and next he wanted other cities to become "sword training grounds." [s9] [s23]

By the ninth anniversary in 2025, Pu Pu will set up a food stall downstairs of the Fuzhou headquarters to interact with users. [s25] This action is in sharp contrast to the size of the company: on one side is a regional retail giant with annual revenue reported to be about 30 billion yuan and more than 60,000 employees. [s24] [s28] On the other side is Pu Pu, who still uses community stalls, homely talk and neighborly relations to maintain the warmth of the brand. [s25] [s4] The Fuzhou market not only contributed to Pu Pu’s early orders and profits, but also shaped the way it understands home users. [s4] [s7]

Going down the mountain”: the pace of expansion from Fuzhou to Jiucheng

**English:** In 2018, after Pu Pu ran through the model in Fuzhou, the internal annual meeting proposed that "it is time for Pu Pu to come down the mountain." The complete metaphor of this sentence is: I used to practice martial arts hard in Fuzhou, and now I want to "go down the mountain" to explore the world. Other cities are the "sword training grounds" to test the model. [s9] [s23] For an asset-heavy front-end warehouse company, "going down the mountain" is not simply opening a city, but moving the entire system of site selection, warehouse building, recruitment, supply chain, local promotion, contract fulfillment and after-sales to an unfamiliar city; every time it enters a city, it means high initial investment and a long climbing period. [s11] [s6]

Pu Pu's city entry timeline, public recruitment materials and media reports are generally consistent: Fuzhou officially opened in September 2016; entered Xiamen in July 2018; entered Shenzhen in May 2019; entered Guangzhou in April 2020; entered Wuhan in January 2021; entered Chengdu in May 2021; entered Foshan in 2021; entered Quanzhou in May 2025. The cities listed on the [s29] [s28] official website include Fuzhou, Xiamen, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Chengdu, Quanzhou, etc.; media reports often summarize it as about 9 cities. [s28] [s6] This pace is much slower than the "dozens of cities in half a year" common to many Internet platforms, but it matches the capital and management requirements of the front-end warehouse model. [s11] [s23]

The significance of the first stop in Xiamen is to replicate within the province. Xiamen and Fuzhou both belong to Fujian, and have similar food structures, supply chain collaboration and brand communication radius. Pu Pu can transfer the suppliers, warehouse management experience and marketing skills accumulated in Fuzhou, while testing cross-city management capabilities. [s8] [s29] After running through Xiamen, Pu Pu truly crossed the province and entered Shenzhen in May 2019. [s29] Shenzhen is a first-tier city with high rents, fast pace, many consumer choices, and fierce competition among instant retail and takeout platforms; entering Shenzhen means that Pupu must verify the Okura model in a higher-cost environment. [s6] [s11]

In April 2020, Pu Pu entered Guangzhou. [s29] Guangzhou is a major retail town in South China. Consumers have detailed requirements for the price and quality of fresh food, as well as local scenes such as late-night snacks, soups, and sweets. It is also a battleground for major supermarkets, community group buying, and instant retail platforms. When NetEase and other media reported that Pu Pu had "opened in 9 cities without burning money," they also regarded Guangzhou, Shenzhen and other southern China markets as key tests for its expansion outside the province. The [s6] report showed that some warehouses in Guangzhou have an average of more than 4,000 orders per day, indicating that the South China market has potential in terms of order density, but competition and costs are also higher than in Fuzhou. [s24] [s6]

2021 is the year of Pupu’s most intensive expansion: it entered Wuhan in January, Chengdu in May, and Foshan in the same year. [s29] Wuhan represents the central China market, Chengdu represents the southwestern market, and Foshan, together with Guangzhou and Shenzhen, forms the Pearl River Delta network. [s29] [s8] This year's accelerated expansion is adjacent in time to the company's capital background of receiving strategic financing from IDG Capital in November 2021, with cumulative financing exceeding US$1 billion; [s10] However, Pu Pu's expansion still maintains the characteristics of regional focus. It does not cast a nationwide net, but is centered around South China, Central China and a few core provincial capital cities. [s6] [s11]

Quanzhou is a “new city” that will only enter in May 2025. After [s29] has matured in Fuzhou and Xiamen for many years, Pupu returned to Fujian and continued to expand, entering Quanzhou, a city with an active private economy, strong county consumption, and stable household purchasing needs. [s28] [s25] This action shows that even after completing multiple rounds of financing and annual revenue of approximately 30 billion yuan, Pu Pu still regards the density of Fujian Province as an important fundamental, rather than blindly chasing the number of new first-tier cities. [s24] [s29]

The media often use "slow, maybe fast" to describe Pu Pu's expansion strategy. [s23] This sentence is not a quotation from Chen Xingwen’s frequent public speeches, but a summary of his business rhythm by the media: instead of pursuing superficial growth in the number of cities, he requires that when entering a city, he must improve warehouse density, order density and supply chain efficiency; if the model cannot be fully understood, he will not advance rashly, and the profits of mature cities will feed back the growth of new cities. [s23] [s11] When discussing whether Pu Pu is advancing or retreating, Chuangye.net also pointed out that the key to the front-end warehouse model is not the size of the story, but whether sufficient order density and fulfillment efficiency can be achieved in a single city. [s11]

The price of this "slowness" is missing out on some of the opportunities and capital spotlight. From 2018 to 2021, community group buying, new retail, and instant retail have taken turns to become capital hot spots, and many platforms have entered a large number of cities at a very high speed; Pupu has been focusing on Fuzhou, Xiamen and a few key cities for a long time, and its founder Chen Xingwen rarely makes his platform public. [s5] [s23] But the "slow" benefit is that when the industry enters a cycle of cost reduction and efficiency improvement, Pupu has achieved high penetration and stable repurchase in mature cities such as Fuzhou and Xiamen, and can use regional profits to support overall operations. [s24] [s26]

Pupu's official website writes the company's mission as "let every ordinary person live a better life" and regards 30-minute delivery as its core service commitment. During the expansion process of [s28], this set of commitments needs to be localized in different cities: South China needs to adapt to local fresh food categories and food structures, Central and Southwest China need to rebuild the supply chain and rider network, and new cities have to bear insufficient orders, high rents, and user education costs in the early stages of opening a warehouse. [s6] [s8] Pu Pu’s approach is to migrate the warehouses, SKUs, private brands and service standards that have been verified in Fuzhou, and then adjust the categories based on local consumption data. [s24] [s4]

By 2025-2026, Pupu has formed an urban network of "Fujian Base + South China + Central China + Southwest", with more than 60,000 employees and more than 400 front-end warehouses. [s28] [s1] [s24] Compared with national platforms, its number of cities is not large; but in the cities it enters, it often pursues sufficiently high warehouse density and household user penetration. After [s6] [s24] "going down the mountain", Pupu did not become a company that flourished everywhere, but became an instant retail player with deep roots in a few cities that the giants had to pay attention to. [s1] [s20]

Pu Pu's expansion sequence shows the obvious characteristics of "first inside the province, then outside the province; first deep cultivation in the region, and then spread out in multiple cities." Fuzhou in 2016, Xiamen in 2018, Shenzhen in 2019, Guangzhou in 2020, Wuhan and Chengdu in 2021, Quanzhou in 2025, [s29] This timetable is not like lightning expansion driven by capital, but more like a set of city opening rhythms promoted according to the maturity of the model. [s23] [s11] Every time he enters a new city, Pu Pu has to build a new warehouse, recruit people, form a supply chain, do local promotion, and wait for users to form a habit of repurchasing. [s6]

Shenzhen is Pu Pu’s first important examination place after leaving Fujian. When [s29] entered Shenzhen in May 2019, it faced a first-tier urban environment with high rents, fast pace, strong competition, and numerous user choices; [s6] If the Okura model can be established in Shenzhen, it shows that Pupu's capabilities are not just Fujian's local supply chain dividends. NetEase and other media also regard Shenzhen, Guangzhou and other southern Chinese cities as the key to its replication outside the province in reports related to "Pu Pu who does not burn money". [s6]

Guangzhou tested Pu Pu’s ability to adapt to local food and fresh food consumption. Families in Guangzhou are very sensitive to the freshness of ingredients, category segmentation and price, and there are many consumption scenarios such as soup, sugar water, late-night snacks, and aquatic products; [s6] Pupu must make localized adjustments in SKU, procurement and distribution. According to the report, some warehouses in Guangzhou have an average daily order volume of more than 4,000 orders, indicating that the South China market can provide a very high order density after it matures, but competition and operating costs are also high. [s24] [s6]

Entering Wuhan, Chengdu and Foshan in 2021 will further expand Pupu from Fujian and South China to central and southwest China. [s29] Wuhan and Chengdu are both large provincial capital markets with large consumer populations and strong demand for catering and fresh food. However, they are further away from the core of Fujian's supply chain and need to rebuild local procurement and warehousing systems; [s8] [s11] Foshan forms a Pearl River Delta network with Guangzhou and Shenzhen, which is helpful for regional warehousing and brand coordination. [s6] [s29] This year’s expansion coincides with the investment and financing led by IDG Capital. The capital provided financial support to Kaicheng, but Pu Pu still has not spread its net across the country. [s10] [s11]

Quanzhou Kaicheng shows that Pu Pu attaches great importance to Fujian's basic market. In May 2025, Pupu entered Quanzhou. [s29] At this time, the company had been reported to have annual revenue of approximately 30 billion yuan and more than 60,000 employees. [s24] [s28] However, it still chose to return to Fujian Province to continue encryption, rather than simply pursuing a longer list of cities. [s25] [s29] This is consistent with its "slow, maybe fast" business rhythm: first penetrate one area, and then use regional profits and management experience to support the next area. [s23]

"Slow" does not mean conservative, but a rational choice under the front-loaded warehouse model. When discussing Pu Pu’s “advance or retreat”, Chuangye Bang pointed out that the core of the front-end warehouse model is the order density and fulfillment efficiency of a single city, and the number of cities itself does not constitute a moat; [s11] If the speed of city opening exceeds the management radius and supply chain capabilities, the losses in new cities will quickly eat up the profits of mature cities. [s11] [s24] There is a direct relationship between Pu Pu’s choice to enter fewer cities and go deeper when he does, and his profit turning point in 2024. [s23] [s26]

Fuzhou, Xiamen, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Chengdu, Quanzhou and other cities listed on the official website, as well as the "9 cities" caliber in media reports, present Pupu's city map as of 2025-2026. [s28] [s6] Compared with national platforms, this territory is not large; but within these cities, Pupu pursues high density of warehouses, riders, supply chains and user minds. [s24] After going down the mountain, Pupu did not become a company that planted its flag everywhere. Instead, it took the martial arts developed in Fuzhou and repeatedly practiced them in a few cities to achieve regional scale advantages. [s9] [s23]

### 7. 融资、IPO与被围猎：朴朴的资本十年 / Financing, IPO and being hunted: Pu Pu’s ten years of capital

**English:** Pu Pu’s capital path is as low-key as its business rhythm. According to the official website of the company, Pupu has completed 7 rounds of financing since its establishment; financing information platforms such as [s28] Zhiyouji and Qixinbao list its multiple financing records by round. [s12] [s14] Early financing that can be confirmed by public reports includes: obtaining a tens of millions of RMB investment from Gaorong Capital (Gaorong Venture Capital) around August 2018; completing a US$55 million Series B financing in March 2019, with Taihe Capital serving as a financial advisor; continuing to complete a Series B financing in the second half of 2019, totaling approximately US$100 million; completing strategic financing led by IDG Capital in November 2021, and media such as Chuangye.com reported that the cumulative financing exceeded US$1 billion. [s12] [s22] [s10]

2019 is the first year that Pu Pu’s financing and market attention have significantly heated up. In a report in March of that year, Yiou discussed the financing logic of this Fuzhou front-end warehouse player under the title "Pu Pu asks for US$600 million," reflecting the capital market's focus on its regional model and expansion potential. [s22] For the fresh food e-commerce industry at that time, what was special about Pupu was that it did not start from Beijing, Shanghai or Hangzhou, nor did it rely on the founder’s high-frequency voice. Instead, it built a high-density model in Fuzhou and then raised funds externally; what investors saw was not a concept, but real orders, repurchases and single warehouse data in the Fuzhou market. [s22] [s4]

The entry of Gaorong Capital, IDG Capital and other institutions provided financial support for Pu Pu to move from Fuzhou to Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Chengdu and other cities. [s10] [s12] Front-end warehouse is a typical asset-heavy business: warehouse leasing and decoration, cold chain equipment, rider and picker wages, commodity inventory, local promotion subsidies, each of which requires cash in advance; without capital support, it will be difficult for Pupu to continuously enter multiple first-tier cities and provincial capital cities from 2019 to 2021. [s6] [s10] However, unlike some platforms that rely on continuous subsidies, Pupu still maintains a regional focus after financing, investing mainly in warehouse construction, supply chains and mature urban density. [s11] [s23]

The topic of listing first appeared around 2022. Later reports from Gelonghui, Sina Finance and others recalled that Pu Pu was rumored to have established a red-chip structure and an audit firm had entered the market. The market was once expected to launch an IPO in Hong Kong. However, due to the capital market environment, changes in the valuation of front-end positions and the company's own pace, the listing process did not materialize at that time. [s16] [s19] For files, this stage should be recorded as "market rumors and preparations" rather than completed listing: there is no record of Park officially submitting a prospectus or listing transaction in public information. [s16]

From the end of May to early June 2025, rumors of an IPO in Hong Kong reappeared. Sina Finance and other reports stated that Pu Pu contacted investment banks to prepare for listing in Hong Kong, and the company responded with "no comment"; platforms such as Gelonghui also followed up on relevant news. [s19] [s16] The background of this period is that Pupu is reported to achieve its first full-year profit in 2024, with annual revenue of approximately 30 billion yuan. After years of shuffling in the front-end warehouse track, the profit model has regained capital attention. [s24] [s26] However, as of the time of compilation of this file, Pu Pu has not publicly disclosed the confirmed prospectus or listing timetable. [s16] [s19]

At the end of May 2026, "bidding" rumors that were more dramatic than the IPO began to ferment. Sina Finance and other reports stated that Alibaba, Meituan, JD.com and other parties were involved in Park Pu's bidding news, and the valuation was rumored to be in the range of about 2 billion to 5 billion US dollars. The news also mentioned details such as Alibaba's dispatch of auditors, Xu Xin of Capital Today's representative for JD.com, and Meituan's price increase. [s20] Blue Whale News and other reports show that Meituan, JD.com and other parties have denied or did not respond to relevant rumors, and Pu Pu has not confirmed the transaction. [s13] [s20] Therefore, this stage can only be recorded as "multiple bidding rumors and responses from all parties" and cannot be written as the acquisition has been completed. [s20] [s13]

In June 2026, Cailian News/Kechuangban Daily and others reported the news of "Alibaba's US$1.5 billion (approximately 10.15 billion yuan) acquisition of Pu Pu". Pu Pu responded that "there is no relevant information" or "no more news." [s3] [s13] Tianyancha and other industrial and commercial information platforms have labels such as "Proposed acquisition of Alibaba for US$1.5 billion 2026.06" on relevant pages; [s2] Business News and other platforms also follow up discussions with the keyword "tens of billions of acquisitions". [s21] However, as of the date of verification of public information, the parties to the transaction have not issued a formal acquisition announcement, and neither media reports nor platform annotations can be equated to the completion of the transaction. [s3] [s2] [s21]

The reason why "being hunted" has become a keyword in media reports on Pu Pu in 2026 is related to the pattern of the instant retail industry. Caijing Tianxia Weekly pointed out in the report that Pupu’s high penetration rate in markets such as Fuzhou and Xiamen, more than 400 front-end warehouses, more than 60,000 employees, and mature supply chains have made it a scarce mature asset in local real-time retail; for platform giants, acquiring or investing in Pupu may gain regional density and fresh food fulfillment capabilities faster than building a front-end warehouse network from scratch. [s1] [s20] Sina Finance's "Pu Pu's Story of Selling Her Life" and other reports also discussed Pu Pu's position among giants from the perspective of industry integration. [s18]

But Pu Pu has always maintained a silent response. Whether it is IPO rumors or acquisition rumors, the company's statements are mostly "no comment", "no relevant information yet" and "no more news yet". Chen Xingwen himself has not spoken publicly like many founders. [s16] [s3] [s13] This approach is consistent with his personal low-key style and the company’s long-standing style of holding few press conferences. [s5] [s1] For files, the most important thing is to record rumors, responses and industrial and commercial/platform labels in layers: rumors are rumors, responses are responses, and formal transactions must be based on company announcements or authoritative regulatory documents. [s3] [s20]

From Gaorong Capital’s tens of millions of financing in 2018, to the Series B round of approximately US$100 million in 2019, to IDG Capital’s leading investment in 2021, with cumulative financing exceeding US$1 billion, Pu Pu has used capital to complete the leap from a single city in Fuzhou to a multi-city network; [s12] [s22] [s10] From the red-chip structure and rumors of IPO in Hong Kong in 2022, to rumors of listing in 2025 and giant bidding in 2026, it has become an iconic target for real-time retail to enter the integration period. [s16] [s19] [s20] The final direction of the capital story has not yet been determined, but what can be confirmed is that this company, which started from a front-end warehouse in Fuzhou, has transformed from a new local retail variable into an industry participant that giants and capital markets cannot ignore. [s1] [s28]

A hidden line in Pu Pu’s financing history is the cyclical changes in capital’s attitude towards the front-end position model. From 2018 to 2021, fresh food e-commerce, community group buying and instant retail are in a period of expansion, and capital is willing to pay for growth and urban layout; institutions such as Gaorong Capital and IDG Capital have entered Pupu to provide funds for its expansion in cities such as Xiamen, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Wuhan, and Chengdu. [s10] [s12] [s29] After 2022, the industry will shift towards profitability and cash flow, and Pu Pu has once again attracted attention due to his solid regional model. [s16] [s24]

The report in 2019 that "Pu Pu asked for $600 million" is a sample of early market expectations for its valuation. [s22] At that time, Pu Pu had just moved from Fuzhou to Xiamen and Shenzhen, and had not yet entered the multi-city stage. However, the high repurchase and single warehouse data in the Fuzhou market had already allowed investors to see the possibility of profit from front-loaded warehouses. [s22] [s4] Unlike many platforms that rely on subsidies to boost GMV, Pu Pu’s financing story relies more on a single-city model: first prove that Fuzhou can run smoothly, and then use funds to copy it to other cities. [s22] [s11]

After IDG Capital led the strategic financing in November 2021, Chuangye News and other reports stated that Pu Pu’s cumulative financing exceeded US$1 billion; the [s10] official website summarized the company’s financing process with “7 rounds of financing”. [s28] The two calibers are not contradictory: the media summarizes according to the publicly disclosed rounds and amounts, and the official website summarizes according to the company’s financing stage. [s10] [s28] [s12] For files, both statements should be retained at the same time, and the specific round amount should be stated based on financing information platforms and media reports. [s12] [s14]

The two rises in IPO rumors are both related to profit nodes. Around 2022, the market rumored that Pu Pu would build a red-chip structure, enter the market through audits, and prepare for an IPO in Hong Kong; [s16] [s19] In 2025, after Pu Pu was reported to have made its first full-year profit in 2024, with annual revenue of about 30 billion yuan, news of contacting investment banks and listing in Hong Kong appeared again, and the company responded with "no comment." [s19] [s24] This shows that what the capital market really cares about is not the concept of front-end positions, but whether the model can be profitable and whether it can provide a sustainable profit story after listing. [s26] [s19]

Rumors of bidding in 2026 have pushed Pu Pu into the center of industry consolidation. Sina Finance reported market news such as multi-party bidding by Alibaba, Meituan, and JD.com, with a valuation of US$2 billion to US$5 billion; [s20] Blue Whale News and other reports showed that relevant parties either denied or did not respond, and Pu Pu did not confirm the transaction. [s13] Subsequently, Cailian News/Kechuangban Daily reported "Alibaba's US$1.5 billion acquisition", Pu Pu responded that "there is no relevant information/no more news yet"; [s3] Tianyancha and other platforms showed "intended acquisition" tags, and platforms such as [s2] Business News followed up on the discussion of "tens of billions of acquisitions". The [s21] file must layer this information: media reports are hearsay clues, platform labels are industrial and commercial/data product presentations, company responses are official, and formal transactions cannot be recognized without an announcement. [s3] [s20]

It is not difficult to understand the industrial logic of giants paying attention to Pu Pu. In the real-time retail competition, by 2026, what the platform lacks is not App traffic, but a stable fresh food fulfillment network, local supply chain and high-density front warehouse; [s1] [s20] It will take many years and a lot of losses to build this network by itself, while Pu Pu has already developed a high penetration and profit model in markets such as Fuzhou and Xiamen. [s24] [s26] Therefore, whether the final transaction occurs or not, Pu Pu has become a representative case of revaluation of local retail assets. [s18] [s20]

Chen Xingwen and Pu Pu's restrained response to the rumors also continued the company's consistent style. [s3] [s13] For a company with more than 60,000 employees and serving daily orders for tens of millions of households, capital transactions should not be speculated before being announced; [s28] [s3] For the public and industry researchers, the most reliable approach is to continue to wait for company announcements, regulatory documents or authoritative disclosures, rather than writing bidding rumors as established facts. [s3] [s20]

Eight years of losses to first profit: Pu Pu’s financial turning point

**English:** Front-end warehouse e-commerce has long been questioned as "the model does not hold true": warehouse rent, picking, riders, cold chain, losses and subsidies are superimposed, making the fulfillment cost of each order high; many platforms use subsidies in exchange for orders during the period of rapid expansion, but shrink or even exit once the capital ebbs. The reason why Pu Pu's path has attracted attention is that it has spent many years cultivating the region and gradually pushing this heavy business to profitability. [s11] [s24]

Public reports show that Pu Pu achieved monthly profits for the first time in April 2024. [s26] [s24] This point in time has been nearly eight years since Fuzhou was officially put into operation in September 2016, which shows that the front-end warehouse model cannot be run through short-term subsidies, but requires urban density, supply chain efficiency, category structure and management radius to mature at the same time. After crossing the break-even line in [s26] [s28], Pu Pu was further reported to achieve its first full-year profit in 2024; 21st Century Business Review and other media reported that its annual revenue was about 30 billion yuan under the title "Fujian Fresh Food King Surges 30 Billion". [s24]

List data provides another verifiable caliber. Sina Finance's "Fujian Boss Circle" and other reports mentioned that in the list of the top 100 private enterprises in Fujian Province, Pupu Technology ranked 19th with an operating income of 29.08 billion yuan. [s25] This figure is basically in the same order of magnitude as the "approximately 30 billion yuan" reported in the media, and can be used as circumstantial evidence of Pu Pu's revenue scale around 2024; however, it should be noted that the media reports and list caliber are not the company's audited and disclosed prospectus data, and the file should be marked as "public report/list caliber". [s25] [s24]

The first starting point of the profit model is the density of mature cities. Fuzhou, Xiamen and other base markets have been operating for many years, with high front-end warehouse coverage, stable user repurchases, and large orders for single warehouses; 21st Century Business Review and other reports mentioned that the penetration rate of Fuzhou household users is about 70%, the unit price of Fuzhou-Xiamen customers is about 80 yuan, the average daily orders for mature warehouses are more than 3,000 orders, and some warehouses in Guangzhou can handle more than 4,000 orders. [s24] [s1] When the order density of a single warehouse is high enough, the costs of warehouse rental, equipment, management personnel and basic transportation capacity can be shared by more orders, and the fulfillment expense rate will decrease accordingly. [s24] [s6]

The second starting point is category structure adjustment. In the early days of Pupu, fresh food was the core, and the proportion of fresh food was once about 60%. As the platform categories expanded, the proportion of fresh food dropped to about 50%, and it is reported that it is expected to continue to adjust to about 45%. [s24] [s1] Fresh food is a high-frequency entrance, but the loss rate, cold chain cost and picking difficulty are higher; standard products such as daily necessities, wine, maternal and infant, pets, snack foods, etc. have low loss and stable gross profit, which helps to increase single warehouse profits. Pu Pu uses fresh food to increase the frequency, and uses standard products and private brands to improve gross profit, forming a structure of "high frequency drainage + high gross profit acceptance". [s24] [s4]

The third starting point is private label. Public reports mentioned that Pupu has launched its own brands such as "Youci" and "Suizi", with more than 750 SKUs, and annual sales are reported to be in the billions of yuan. [s1] [s24] Private brand products are reversely customized by the platform based on consumption data, reducing brand and multi-level distribution costs, which can not only give users lower prices, but also contribute higher gross profits to the platform. For front-end warehouse platforms, private brands are also tools for differentiated competition: when high-frequency rigid needs such as paper towels, drinking water, snacks, daily necessities, etc. form the platform's own mind, users do not only come for low prices during major sales. [s24]

The fourth starting point is fulfillment efficiency and loss control. The 21st Century Business Review reported citing data that Pupu's gross profit margin will be approximately 22.5% around 2024, and the fulfillment expense rate will be controlled within 17.5%. The relevant reference standard for Dingdong's grocery shopping is approximately 22.9%; Pupu's fresh food loss rate is approximately 1.5%. [s24] These figures come from media reports, but their direction is mutually confirmed by Pupu’s big warehouse model, local high-frequency replenishment and regional cultivation: only with large warehouses, complete SKUs, high order density and short supply chains can it be possible to reduce losses and fulfillment costs to a manageable range. [s24] [s7]

The other end of cost control is the refinement of labor and distribution rules. Sina Finance's 2026 investigative report mentioned that there is an obvious part-time employment structure at some Pupu sites, with only one full-time rider out of about 100 at one site in South China. The report also focused on changes such as the increase in the minimum delivery threshold from about 19 yuan to 35 yuan, a delivery fee of about 3 yuan for those who do not meet the threshold, and the gradual reduction of the delivery fee from 5 yuan to about 3 yuan. [s30] These measures will help adjust peak and valley transportation capacity, increase unit price per passenger, and reduce contract performance subsidies in terms of operations; at the labor level, they will trigger discussions on income stability and labor relations. The archives present these facts side by side according to the principle of "not evaluating, just recording". [s30]

The supplier system also contributes to cost advantages. According to public reports, Pu Pu offers low prices and customization from suppliers in exchange for no returns, stable orders, and exclusive cooperation. Some product quotes are about 30% to 35% lower than those through traditional channels, and it has accumulated a cooperation network of more than 2,000 reportedly called "loyal suppliers." [s1] [s24] For fresh food retail, purchase price, loss rate and turnover speed jointly determine the terminal price; Pu Pu’s ability to maintain price competitiveness while maintaining 30-minute delivery is inseparable from the local supply chain and the bargaining power brought by large-scale orders. [s24] [s4]

It is worth noting that Pu Pu’s profits do not occur evenly in all cities. When discussing the front-end warehouse model, media such as Chuangye.com pointed out that rents, wages, competition intensity and consumption habits vary greatly in different cities. When the single-city model cannot be fully understood, the faster the expansion, the greater the losses. [s11] Pu Pu’s experience is to first form a high-density profit pool in Fuzhou and Xiamen, and then use mature market experience and financing support to enter new cities; there is an internal hedging between the losses in the climbing period of new cities and the profits in mature cities. [s6] [s24]

Around 2020, case reports have described Pu Punian's revenue as about 10 billion yuan, and called it one of the few fresh food e-commerce players that was close to breaking even at that time; [s4] [s6] By 2024, public reports have pushed its revenue to about 30 billion yuan, full-year profit, and 19th place among the top 100 private enterprises in Fujian. [s24] [s25] The process from 10 billion to 30 billion is accompanied by urban expansion, SKU expansion, private brand growth and improvement in contract fulfillment efficiency. It is also accompanied by the big cycle of the front-end warehouse industry shifting from cash-burning expansion to profit verification. [s4] [s24] [s26]

Therefore, Pu Pu’s financial turning point cannot simply be attributed to a certain technology, but to multiple variables crossing the threshold together: the warehouses are dense enough, the orders are large enough, the customer price is stable enough, the fresh food loss is low enough, the gross profit of standard products and private brands is high enough, and the efficiency of riders and people in the warehouse is sophisticated enough. [s24] [s30] This is why after 2025, the capital market re-discussed Pu Pu’s IPO, and rumors of giant bids emerged in 2026: A company that has made profits after being questioned for a long time in the front-end warehouse track has itself become a scarce asset. [s19] [s20] [s26]

Pu Pu’s profit turning point is important because it occurred after the front-end warehouse industry experienced a large-scale reshuffle. Media such as Chuangye.com have continued to discuss "advance or retreat" of front-end warehouses: If the platform relies on subsidies to exchange orders, the cost of fulfillment of a single warehouse cannot be covered, and the faster the expansion, the greater the loss; [s11] Pu Pu used mature markets such as Fuzhou and Xiamen to prove that when the density of front-end warehouses, SKU structure, supply chain and customer unit price are all established at the same time, the model can move from loss to profit. [s24] [s26]

Monthly earnings are a more sensitive signal than annual earnings. Pupu achieved monthly profitability for the first time in April 2024. [s26] shows that in some months, the gross profit contributed by mature cities has been able to cover warehousing, contract fulfillment, personnel and management costs. Subsequently, it will be profitable for the whole year in 2024, which shows that this improvement is not a single-month fluctuation, but has a certain degree of sustainability. [s24] [s26] Rui Finance reported that this change was attributed to the increase in density in mature cities, optimization of category structure and improvement in operational efficiency. [s26]

In terms of revenue scale, media reports and rankings are close to each other. 21st Century Business Review reported that Pu Pu’s annual revenue is about 30 billion yuan, calling it the “King of Fresh Food in Fujian”; [s24] Sina Finance’s report on the top 100 private enterprises in Fujian showed that Pu Pu Technology ranked 19th with revenue of 29.08 billion yuan. The two calibers of [s25] both point to the level of 30 billion yuan, but neither is a company prospectus or audit report. This file is uniformly marked as a public report and list caliber. [s24] [s25]

Pupu's profitability does not rely solely on cutting costs, but on simultaneously improving both the revenue and cost sides. On the revenue side, high customer unit prices, high-frequency repurchase, expansion of private brands and standard products increase gross profits; on the [s24] [s4] cost side, large warehouse models, order density, local short-chain supply chains and low loss rates reduce fulfillment costs. In the [s24] report, the Fuzhou-Xiamen customer unit price of about 80 yuan, the average daily orders of mature warehouses of more than 3,000 orders, and the fresh food loss rate of about 1.5% correspond to the three key variables of customer order, scale and loss respectively. [s24] [s1]

Changes in labor and distribution rules are parts of the profit model that must be recorded side by side. Sina Finance’s 2026 investigative report mentioned that riders at some Pupu sites have a high degree of part-time employment, and the minimum delivery threshold and delivery fee rules have also been adjusted; [s30] These changes help the platform increase the unit price per customer, reduce low-amount order subsidies, and flexibly match the peaks and troughs of orders, but they also raise concerns about rider income and labor relations. [s30] Another set of reports recorded rider support policies such as free electricity, no deposit rent, and no fines for overtime. [s1] [s25] The two types of facts jointly illustrate that instant retail profit is not costless. It is redistributed between user prices, platform efficiency and rider benefits. [s30]

From a revenue of about 10 billion yuan in 2020 to a revenue of about 30 billion yuan and its first full-year profit in 2024, it took Pu Pu about four years to complete the double leap in scale and model. [s4] [s6] [s24] In the past four years, the company has entered Wuhan, Chengdu, and Foshan, completed investment and financing led by IDG Capital, and then slowed down its pace and strengthened the density of mature cities after the industry cooled down. [s10] [s29] [s23] By the time IPO is rumored in 2025 and there is a bid by giants in 2026, Pu Pu is no longer a simple "Fuzhou Fresh Food App", but a rare profit sample in the front-end warehouse track. [s19] [s20] [s26]

For corporate history, the value of Pu Pu’s financial turning point is that it provides a path different from burning money for expansion: it does not pursue the number of cities, but pursues single warehouse order density; it does not pursue the reputation of the founder, but pursues repurchase and contract fulfillment certainty; it does not use low prices for fresh food as the only selling point, but uses fresh food to attract traffic, standard products and private brands to improve profits. [s23] [s24] Whether this path can be replicated in more cities remains to be seen; but the mature models of Fuzhou and Xiamen have given the long-standing controversy of “whether front-end warehouses can make money” a Chinese regional sample that has been repeatedly cited by the market. [s11] [s24]

Pupu Kitchen, offline stores and the second growth curve

**English:** While the main business of real-time retail is gradually becoming profitable, Pupu is also exploring new businesses besides the main business. In September 2025, "Pu Pu Kitchen" started internal testing in Fuzhou, adjacent to the Red Star Business Building where the company's headquarters is located; public reports described it as Pu Pu's attempt to enter instant catering in the form of self-operated catering/takeaway. [s27] [s1] This means that Pupu is no longer content with delivering supermarket goods to homes, but has begun to extend its "30-minute delivery" fulfillment capabilities to freshly prepared meals and takeout scenarios. [s27]

There is a natural connection between the logic of Pupu Kitchen and the capabilities of the front warehouse. Pupu has more than 400 front-end warehouses, more than 60,000 employees, a mature rider network and high-frequency home user entrances; [s1] [s28] When users are accustomed to buying vegetables and daily necessities at Pupu, the platform further provides dinners, light meals, semi-finished products or ready-made food, which can theoretically increase the order frequency and customer unit price for the same user. [s24] [s27] Food delivery and fresh food retail also complement each other during peak periods: grocery shopping is concentrated before meals and after work, while food delivery covers lunch, dinner and midnight snacks. If there can be collaboration between warehouses, riders and kitchens, capacity utilization can be improved. [s27] [s24]

However, catering and supermarket retail have different capacity requirements. Fresh food retail emphasizes product standardization, inventory turnover and loss control; fresh food catering involves kitchen qualifications, food safety, menu development, meal delivery speed, taste stability and brand positioning. [s27] Pupu Kitchen is still in the internal testing stage, and the public information is mainly limited to small-scale testing in Fuzhou, and has not yet formed a national network; the file can only record that it has "internally tested, and the direction is self-operated catering/takeaway" and cannot be exaggerated into a mature business. [s27] [s1]

Related to Pu Pu Kitchen is Pu Pu’s long-term accumulation in semi-finished products, clean vegetables and private label foods. Public reports mentioned that the Pupu platform has clean vegetables/semi-finished ingredients such as Youye potato shreds, and more than 750 SKUs of its own brands "Youci" and "Suizi", covering multiple categories such as processed foods, snacks, and daily necessities. [s4] [s24] [s1] These products essentially complete part of the kitchen work for families; Pupu Kitchen goes one step further, moving from “washing and cutting for you” to “making it for you”. [s27] [s4]

Offline stores are also a direction in Pupu’s new business discussions. Financial World Weekly and other reports mentioned that Pupu Life offline stores and other attempts show that the company is not completely limited to purely online front-end warehouses, but is exploring offline touch points. [s1] However, similar to Pu Pu Kitchen, offline stores have not yet become the main business format disclosed by the company; what is confirmed is that Pu Pu’s main business is still the core of real-time retail in front-end warehouses, and the focus of the official website’s external introduction is still 30-minute delivery, multi-city layout and employee size. [s28] [s1]

New business exploration occurs in 2025-2026, when company profits and capital rumors go hand in hand. In 2024, Pu Pu was reported to have made a full-year profit for the first time, with annual revenue of about 30 billion yuan; [s24] [s26] In 2025, there were rumors of an IPO in Hong Kong, and the company would not comment; [s19] [s16] In 2026, there were rumors of bidding for Ali, Meituan, JD.com and "Alibaba's US$1.5 billion acquisition". Pu Pu responded that "there is no relevant information/no more news yet." [s20] [s3] In this context, Pupu Kitchen and offline stores can be seen as the company’s actions to find a second growth curve in addition to its main business and increase the reuse value of the fulfillment network. [s27] [s20]

The boundaries of the just-in-time retail industry are themselves extended. Traditional fresh food e-commerce sells ingredients and daily necessities, food delivery platforms sell catering, and local lifestyle platforms sell services. When the platform has a dense network of warehouses and riders, the boundaries between retail, catering, and services will become blurred. [s24] [s27] Pu Pu started from the purchase of family dining tables, selling vegetables first, then selling all categories of supermarket products, and then explored clean vegetables, own brands, and self-operated kitchens. The path always revolved around the high-frequency scene of "family eating". [s4] [s27]

This path also echoes Chen Xingwen’s early experience in Qingqiong ecological agriculture. Qixinbao information shows that he once served as executive director of Fuzhou Cangqiong Ecological Agriculture Development Co., Ltd. Public reports describe the company's business as the supply of fresh food and central kitchen ingredients for catering and retail channels. [s15] [s1] From B-side food supply, to C-side home fresh food retailing, to self-operated catering internal testing, Pupu Kitchen is in a sense like re-experimenting the central kitchen capabilities that the founder was familiar with in the early years into a real-time retail network. [s15] [s27]

Of course, it still takes time to verify whether the new business can be established. The competition in food delivery is fierce, and the platform-based food delivery giant has a mature business ecosystem and user mentality; if Puruo operates a self-operated kitchen, it must face not only supply chain and food safety management, but also the issue of taste standardization after scale replication. [s27] [s20] Files should be restrained in recording this stage: as of the verifiable range of public information, Pupu Kitchen is in the internal testing and regional exploration stage, which is not yet comparable to the more than 400 warehouses and more than 60,000 employees of the main front-end warehouse business. [s27] [s28]

However, from the perspective of corporate history, the emergence of Pupu Kitchen in 2025 has a landmark significance: it shows that Pupu is trying to upgrade "30-minute delivery" from retail fulfillment capabilities to local life infrastructure covering more aspects of family dining. [s27] [s28] Whether this attempt ultimately leads to independent business, platform cooperation, or a return to the supermarket category, it records a front-end warehouse company's reimagining of the value boundary of its own network after the profit turning point. [s24] [s27]

The emergence of Pu Pu Kitchen shows that Pu Pu’s understanding of the “family meal” scene is shifting from commodities to meals. Users buy food on Pupu to cook at home; buy clean vegetables and semi-finished products to reduce preparation time; and order Pupu Kitchen to finish a meal directly when they don’t want to cook. [s27] [s4] This business chain extends along the same high-frequency scene, rather than blindly entering a new track that has nothing to do with the family dining table. [s27]

From the perspective of the contract fulfillment network, there are synergies between self-operated catering and Pu Pu’s existing capabilities. The company has more than 400 front warehouses, more than 60,000 employees and a mature rider network. [s1] [s28] If the kitchen locations are combined with the density of front warehouses, business districts and communities, in theory, instant delivery capabilities and user entrances can be reused. [s27] [s24] Catering periods such as lunch, dinner, and midnight snacks may also complement the fresh food purchasing peak, improving the utilization rate of riders and warehouse distribution resources. [s27]

But the difficulty of the catering business is equally obvious. Supermarket products can be solved through standardized SKU and inventory management, while ready-made catering has to face issues such as taste stability, meal delivery speed, food safety supervision, chef and kitchen management, etc. The [s27] takeout platform already has a mature business ecosystem, and users are accustomed to ordering food on specialized takeout platforms; Puruo enters the market with his own kitchen, which means he has to compete with catering merchants for taste and the platform for rich choices. [s27] [s20] Therefore, the 2025 Fuzhou internal test is more like a capability test rather than a finalized second growth curve. [s27] [s1]

Pu Pu’s previous accumulation in clean vegetables, semi-finished products and private label food provided a buffer for this experiment. Public reports mentioned that the platform has clean vegetables, semi-finished ingredients, as well as private brands such as "Youci" and "Suizi", with more than 750 SKUs; [s4] [s24] [s1] These businesses have allowed Pupu to participate in the processing of family catering. Pupu Kitchen just takes the depth of processing one step further: from "washing and cutting for you" to "preparing and delivering for you". [s27] [s4]

Offline store attempts should also be understood within the framework of network reuse. Caijingtianxia and other reports mentioned Pupu Life’s offline stores and other actions, but as of public information, Pupu’s core identity to the outside world is still the front-end warehouse platform of 30 Minutes, and the focus of the official website introduction is still mission, city, employees and services. If [s28] offline touch points exist, they may be responsible for brand display, self-pickup, user interaction or new business testing functions, but they cannot yet be described as the company's main business. [s1] [s28]

In September 2025, Pu Pu conducted an internal test of Pu Pu kitchen near the Fuzhou headquarters. In the same month, the company set up a food stall downstairs of the headquarters for its ninth anniversary. [s27] [s25] has two actions, one internal and one external: one to test self-operated catering capabilities, and the other to maintain community relations with local users; [s27] [s25] They both took place in Fuzhou, which also shows that Pu Pu still uses the base market as a testing ground when exploring new businesses, continuing the habit of verifying in Fuzhou first and then considering spillovers. [s7] [s23]

From the perspective of industry position, Park Kitchen is also related to the strategic imagination behind the rumors of giant acquisitions. If the real-time retail platform only sells standard products and fresh food, its value will mainly be in supermarkets and online stores; if it can further enter catering, local services and community life, the frequency of use and business boundaries of the fulfillment network will expand. [s20] [s27] However, as of the time of compilation of this archive, these are still exploration directions. What can be confirmed is that Pupu has already tested self-operated catering on a small scale in Fuzhou, and this business is highly related to the main line of "family dining table"; what cannot be confirmed is whether it can be scaled up in the future and whether it will become an independent growth curve. [s27] [s1]

Low-key Fujian businessman: Chen Xingwen’s organization, talents and management style

**English:** Chen Xingwen is a rare founder of "no public strong personality" in China's real-time retail industry. Multiple reports mentioned that he rarely gives interviews, does not stand up, does not mingle with social circles, and there are almost no widely circulated public photos on the Internet; even after Park has a revenue of about 30 billion yuan, more than 60,000 employees, and is surrounded by rumors of bidding for giants, it is still difficult for the outside world to see long interviews with him. [s1] [s5] [s24] Chinese entrepreneurs and other media also regarded his low profile as part of Pu Pu's company temperament: telling less stories and doing more operations; holding less press conferences and looking more at warehouse data and user repurchases. [s5] [s23]

This style is an interesting contrast to his background in advertising and marketing. Chen Xingwen has been in advertising and marketing for more than 20 years, and has served consumer brands such as Yinlu and Panpan, so he should be familiar with communication and momentum building; [s1] [s4] [s5] But at Pupu, he puts his marketing capabilities more into products and user experience rather than personal IP. Pu Pu’s marketing manager’s statement that “it’s better to invest 1 yuan in advertising than to use 1 yuan to optimize services to bring repeat purchases” is an internal expression of this orientation. The founder of [s4] [s23] does not stand in the spotlight, but the brand enters the community through advertising slogans, local promotions, delivery experience and after-sales reputation. [s4]

The public industrial and commercial information shows the changes in Chen Xingwen’s legal status in the Pu Pu system. Tianyancha and Qixinbao information show that Fuzhou Pupu E-Commerce Co., Ltd. was established on June 12, 2016, and the subsequent legal representative is Fan Yunhai; Qixinbao information shows that Chen Muwang (Chen Xingwen) served as the legal representative, director, and general manager of Pupu Technology (Fujian) Co., Ltd., and served as the executive director of Fuzhou Cangqiong Ecological Agriculture Development Co., Ltd., and is also associated with executive affairs partner information of Pingtan Puren, Pingtan Puyou and other investment partnerships. [s2] [s15] This information shows that Pupu has formed a relatively complex corporate and investment entity structure in the development process. The identity of the founder is reflected not only at the operational level, but also at the shareholding and investment platform level. [s15] [s2]

Organizational expansion is the most direct test of Chen Xingwen's management ability. Pupu’s official website shows that it has more than 60,000 employees, and [s28] media reported that it has more than 400 front-end warehouses, covering Fuzhou, Xiamen, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Chengdu, Quanzhou and other cities. [s1] [s24] Among the more than 60,000 employees, a large number are in-warehouse picking, sorting, quality control, riders, webmasters, city operations and customer service personnel; this is not an asset-light Internet company driven by a few R&D personnel, but a labor-intensive retail organization that relies heavily on front-line training, process standards and on-site management. [s28] [s30]

The management granularity of the front warehouse is extremely fine. The warehouse must manage fruits and vegetables, meat and poultry, aquatic products, refrigeration, freezing and standard products in separate zones; the picking path must be as short as possible to reduce waiting for users; there must be rules for handling out-of-stocks, quality problems, delivery overtimes, and rider handovers; fresh food losses must be controlled by the ordering, inventory and loss reporting processes. [s4] [s24] Pu Pu was able to increase the daily average of more than 3,000 orders in a single warehouse in Fuzhou and Xiamen, and achieve full-year profitability in 2024. The reason behind this is not the slogan of a certain founder in front of the camera, but the execution of standard actions by thousands of front-line positions day after day. [s24] [s26]

In terms of talent, public reports mentioned that Pu Pu has introduced mature talents from retail companies such as Yonghui and Hema to supplement his experience in supermarket operations, supply chain and urban management. [s1] [s4] This is in line with Pu Pu’s business attributes: the Internet team is responsible for apps, data and systems, and the retail team is responsible for merchandise, warehouse distribution and supply chain. Chen Xingwen himself has both advertising and marketing experience and a background in fresh food supply from Cangqiong Ecological Agriculture, so the company’s talent mix is not biased. [s5] [s15]

The founder's low profile also allows the outside world to know Pupu Culture more through former employees and partners. Financial World Weekly and other reports interviewed former employees, suppliers and other characters, which not only described the details and execution of Pu Pu's services, but also restored the pace of expansion, labor costs and competitive pressure. The management style of [s1] based on fragmented information is: pragmatic, focusing on details, emphasizing repurchase and regional density, not pursuing grand narratives; highly sensitive to costs and fulfillment efficiency, and willing to invest resources in products, weight, timeliness and after-sales that users can directly perceive. [s1] [s4] [s24]

The identity of a Fujian businessman is another clue to understand Chen Xingwen. He is from Nanping, Fujian, and has started a business in Fuzhou for a long time; [s5] [s25] Pu Pu’s earliest supply chain, talents and markets are also rooted in Fujian. The culture of Fujian merchants emphasizes pragmatism, teamwork, deep regional cultivation and cash flow security. These characteristics are reflected in Pu Pu's "slow, maybe fast" expansion pace. The [s23] [s8] company did not blindly expand nationwide during the boom period. Instead, it first established its base in Fujian and then gradually expanded to cities such as Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Wuhan, and Chengdu. [s29] [s23]

Being low-key does not mean that there is no strategic ambition. Pupu started from a single city in Fuzhou and entered about 9 cities, building more than 400 front-end warehouses and employing more than 60,000 people. Annual revenue was reported to be about 30 billion yuan and it achieved its first full-year profit; [s1] [s24] [s26] [s28] In 2025, Pupu Kitchen will be tested internally to explore self-operated catering takeout. [s27] These actions show that although Chen Xingwen’s management style is low-key, his strategy has always been to expand the boundaries around high-frequency household consumption: from fresh food to supermarkets, from supermarkets to catering, and from Fujian to South China, Central China, and Southwest China. [s27] [s28]

Amid rumors of acquisitions in 2026, Chen Xingwen’s silence further strengthened his image as a “low-key Fujian businessman”. News of Alibaba’s US$1.5 billion acquisition and multi-party bidding by Alibaba, Meituan and JD.com emerged one after another. Pu Pu’s side has always responded with “no relevant information yet” and “no more news yet”. The founder has never made a grand declaration publicly. [s3] [s20] [s13] For a company with more than 60,000 people, this silence is not only needed for negotiation and information management, but also continues Pu Pu’s consistent style: not telling unfinished transactions into stories, and not using rumors as brand material. [s3] [s5]

Chen Xingwen's contemporary corporate history record does not focus on creating a "godfather of retail" figure, but on recording a rare founder path: a background in advertising, entering the supply chain industry, starting a business at the age of 41, not doing personal IP, and spending nearly ten years turning the important business of front-end warehouses into profits in Fuzhou and many cities. [s1] [s4] [s24] He doesn’t make much public noise, but Pu Pu’s more than 400 front-end warehouses, more than 60,000 employees, orders on family tables in Fuzhou and Xiamen, and his industry position in the rumored bid for giants in 2026 constitute the most specific business footnotes of this low-key Fujian businessman. [s28] [s20] [s24]

Chen Xingwen's low profile is not due to lack of awareness of communication, but due to his different choice of communication subjects. He has worked in advertising and marketing for more than 20 years and knows that the founder's story can bring traffic; [s1] [s4] But the core of Pu Pu's external presentation is always the product, price, delivery and service, not the founder's personal legend. [s5] [s4] Pu Pu’s marketing manager’s statement about “service brings repeat purchases” can be seen as an internal footnote of this choice: Instead of letting users remember the boss, it is better to let users remember that there is one more shrimp, the garbage is taken away smoothly, and the vegetables arrive on time on rainy days. [s4] [s23]

The main structure shown in the industrial and commercial information also reminds the outside world that Pu Pu cannot be understood by a single company name. Fuzhou Pupu E-Commerce Co., Ltd. was established on June 12, 2016, and its subsequent legal representative is Fan Yunhai; [s2] Qixinbao information shows that Chen Muwang served as the legal representative, director, and general manager of Pupu Technology (Fujian) Co., Ltd., and was associated with Cangqiong Ecological Agriculture, Pingtan Puren, Pingtan Puyou and other entities. [s15] This information reflects the common multi-agent structure of retail companies in financing, employee ownership, regional operations and supply chain layout. [s14] [s15]

Managing more than 60,000 employees is the most "important" part of Pupu's organizational capabilities. The [s28] front-end warehouse is not an unmanned warehouse, and riders are not abstract nodes in the system; behind every order there are in-warehouse picking, quality control, packaging, distribution, customer service and after-sales personnel. [s1] [s30] If the company wants to copy the "One More Shrimp" service from Fuzhou to Xiamen, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Chengdu and other cities, it must transform the founder's concept into training manuals, warehouse processes, assessment indicators and site management. [s24] [s28]

Pu Pu’s talent structure also reflects the combination of retail and the Internet. Public reports mentioned that the company has introduced mature talents from retail companies such as Yonghui and Hema. [s1] and [s4] also require App, data, algorithm and system teams to support orders, inventory, scheduling and membership operations. Chen Xingwen himself has both advertising and marketing experience and a background in fresh food supply from Cangqiong Ecological Agriculture. [s5] [s15] This enables the company’s management to maintain a balance between “user experience” and “supply chain implementation”. [s1] [s5]

The identity of a Fujian businessman provides a regional footnote to Pu Pu’s business style. Chen Xingwen is from Nanping, Fujian, and has started his own business in Fuzhou for a long time; [s5] [s25] Pu Pu’s earliest supply chain, team and base market were also in Fujian. [s7] [s8] The media summarized its expansion as "slow, maybe fast". [s23] This is not so much a personal personality, but rather the result of the combined effect of Fujian's regional business culture, the law of heavy assets in front of the warehouse, and the founder's risk preference: not easily leaving the cash flow safe zone, and not handing over unverified urban models to capital stories. [s23] [s11]

Amid acquisition rumors in 2026, this low profile has been tested again. News of Alibaba's US$1.5 billion acquisition and multi-party bidding have emerged one after another. If any of the [s3] [s20] were narrated by the founder on his own initiative, it would likely bring huge publicity. However, Pu Pu always responded with "no relevant information yet" and "no more news yet." [s3] [s13] For the archives, this response itself is also a fact: it records the company’s information discipline in the face of major capital rumors, and also reminds the outside world not to equate media news and platform labels with the completion of the transaction. [s3] [s20] [s2]

In the end, the image left by Chen Xingwen in contemporary corporate history is not that of a person who frequently made predictions, but of a person who focused his advertising insights, fresh food supply chain, and front-end warehouse operations on the same thing for a long time: making grocery shopping easier for ordinary families. [s4] [s28] Pu Pu’s more than 400 front-end warehouses, more than 60,000 employees, 30 billion yuan in revenue, a profit turning point in 2024, and rumors of giant bidding in 2026, together constitute the business coordinates of this low-key Fujian businessman. [s1] [s24] [s28] As for whether this company will be independently listed in the future, be integrated, or continue to develop, public information has not given a final answer; the file stops here, leaving the judgment to subsequent facts. [s19] [s20]

Editorial Conclusion

Over ten years, Pupu grew from a single dark store in Fuzhou into an instant-retail network of more than 400 dark stores, over 60,000 employees and seven covered cities.

Its path was different. Most industry players, in their expansion phase, chose to roll out their city footprint fast and cover losses with capital. Pupu, by contrast, after entering each city, would first build density to the full and then deepen the supply chain, making single-city profitability the precondition for the next city. The pace seemed slow during the expansion years, but when the industry shifted from cash-burning to efficiency verification, its regional profit pools began to show their worth.

Chen Xingwen converted more than twenty years of advertising and marketing experience into an understanding of user needs: in which scenarios to lower the trust threshold, and through which details to create a retellable memory. But Pupu's sustained growth rests on supply-chain management, warehouse-distribution efficiency and loss control—capabilities beyond advertising, forged in every dark store through endlessly adjusted picking routes, replenishment cycles and rider scheduling.

Pupu reached its profitability inflection point in 2024. It was not achieved through a single big promotion or short-term subsidies, but through seven years of refining the model in Fuzhou and Xiamen until it was replicable, followed by three years of repeated verification in other cities.

In July 2026, multiple media outlets reported that Alibaba had fully acquired Pupu for US$1.5 billion—about twice the consideration of Meituan's acquisition of Dingdong Maicai in February the same year. Although no official announcement had been released, the pricing logic of the deal was already clear: the giants were paying for a profit model forged through ten years of regional depth, not for scale bought with cash burn. Reports also said the Pupu team was expected to remain independently operated, with its daily rhythm unchanged.

The deal marks a key node in the instant-retail industry's entry into a consolidation phase: a company that ground out profits in regional markets over ten years ultimately became an essential piece in a giant's local-retail layout.

Beyond the narrative of cash-burning and scale, there is also a viable path—slowly ground out through regional density, supply-chain efficiency and user repurchase.

Chen Xingwen walked this path for ten years.
